Film about the current economic crisis. The causes and the whole fuck-up and greed of the bankers that created it. With interviews with economists, politicians, journalists and ex-employees of companies involved with those directly involved all declining to appear in the film.
Well worth a watch

One does not go to a movie with that title expecting finely drawn characters and subtle plot points. It was pretty much what you'd expect, but it was fun.

Oh no!...have you read the book? While I'll agree that Smith (and the blue screens of an Empty New York) did a nice job of conveying the isolation of the main character, this adaptation is- in the end -just another movie that failed to live up to the last-of-his-kind premise of the novel. I DO love how they managed to blame the genesis of the virus that decimated Humankind (left to the imagination in the novel)on a female scientist, in this movie....
I thought this was really cool. It has all the hallmarks of a film made from a sci-fi short story. It's just one small idea that develops and unfolds throughout the film. I can't really say much about what it's about without giving away the plot, but it starts with a guy on a 3 year, solitary, commercial mission to the moon keeping a mineral harvesting base ticking over. Due to some technical problems, he has very limited contact with his family on Earth and only has the base's robot/computer for company.
Saw Source Code last week. Slightly dodgy fx and some odd acting but an interesting premise and only 94 minutes long. I detest anything longer than 94 minutes.

As far as recent movies.....I saw Red Riding Hood and thought it was very fun. I suspected everyone at one point or another in the movie. The visuals were neat and the soundtrack was awesome.
Not a stupid movie. Rather, something a stupid movie found stuck to the sole of its shoe after a walk in the doggie park.
I loved that movie. One of Carpenter's finest!

A Ken Loach film from 1995. It tells the story of an English guy who goes to fight in the Spanish Civil War. A card-carrying member of the Communist Party, he ends up fighting in the (Marxist) POUM millitia. It's a great film and I believe it's historically accurate, giving a slice of history from this one man's perspective. Unfortunately, it seems to have stolen a lot of plot features from Orwell's Homage to Catalonia, which was a little bit disappointing. However, it is an interesting film and I'd recommend watching it. A lot of the quite complex political background and upheaval is put across very well in a series of arguments between the protagonists and also between Spanish villagers trying to decide whether to collectivise.
"One of the most vivid depictions of the horrors of Nazi Concentration Camps. Filmed in 1955 at several concentration camps in Poland, the film combines new color and black and white footage with black and white newsreels, footage shot by the victorious allies, and stills, to tell the story not only of the camps, but to portray the horror of man's brutal inhumanity. "
Jesus, I've never seen so many corpses in one go. It's hard to say a great deal about this short documentary. In some ways it was fairly lightweight compared to things we're used to seeing on TV nowadays, but it was also horrific and a little upsetting. I'm sure the sheer number of dead bodies would be a bit much for some people, but it's worth watching if you are able to stomach that sort of thing.

"Nacht und Nebel" was the name of the order Hitler issued to try and stop partisan activity in France after June 1940. It basically allowed the Gehieme Statz Polizei to arrest and hold anyone with charges.

Went to see Source Code this afternoon. I had read a few reviews which rated it but from what I could make out of the plot and being a science fiction buff of long standing I thought it might be a bit predictable. Plus as so often these days it seems, the trailer was crap.
Anyway I read the Guardian review this morning and it gave it maximum stars and as Kath was visiting her parents I decided to go.
Well! What a fantastic film! Not as predictable by a long way as I anticipated (though I did work out one significant bit though long before it was 'disclosed').
If you haven't seen it - GO! Its got a fantastic ending too!
