Re: Doctor Who : The New Series
Wasn't as keen on episode 3 - it almost seemed a bit of light relief after the complexity of the first two. The pirates were such obvious stereotypes that it left me a little bit meh.

Agreed. I liked The Silence, but given how massive a thread it was that ran through the previous series, it's kind of disappointingly anti-climactic to end it so abruptly in the first 2-parter.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:Wasn't as keen on episode 3 - it almost seemed a bit of light relief after the complexity of the first two. Seems the theme this time is the chick who keeps checking on Pond from behind that randomly recurring peephole. It should be interesting to see how her time-headed baby turns out, and who the regenerating child is from the end of the second episode.
While this rendition of the Doctor is somewhat closer to the original spirit of the series, I must admit I preferred the darker human element that was given to him during the first few series after it's big return. He is a pretty tragic character, taking everything he's done into account.

I don't agree that the Silence ended in episode 2. We still have no clue to the identity of the child, who killed the Doctor, Whether he is actually dead, whether the woman in the hatch is tied in with it all (almost certainly) and don't forget that there were a couple of silents watching the scene by the lake in the first episode. I think they will be the connecting link through this season.Marky wrote:Agreed. If previous series are anything to go by, I would expect most of the encounters in this season to have some bearing on the finale. How did the alien vessel come to be stuck in the dimension next to the pirate ship, for instance?
Every season tends to have a few light-hearted episodes to balance the darker elements.
