Re: What Are You Watching Now?
Confirmed my belief that all mountain climbers are essentially nuts.
But this cleared up some of the questions I had about one of the horror climbing stories I read.
Husband and wife were coming down K2 from a successful summit ( 1 in four summiting K2 die)
They debated who would lead down the fixed ropes and her husband and another were ahead of her ....she felt a rumbling...and the rope ended suddenly just past her hand.
It's a terrific documentary...I think the book I read was simply called K2
Perhaps the most emotional docu and book about climbing is Into Thin Air by Krakauer.
Both highly recommended..the stories out if are astonishing and heartbreaking.

My father was a conscientious objector and I will never be a grandfather.
We did harbour American draft dodgers and a deserter.
It is one odd part of my move to Australia from Canada the very different approach to Vietnam.

This is superb if you can find it
Stan is well worth the modest monthly
There is a kindred spirit in Muir that was so far ahead of his times.
His tales are fantastic and often hilarious. His books are generally free and his impact incredible on American Parks and service
He is famous all over the world …an early version of Attenborough
It's neat seeing the landscapes as we've been to both parks a couple of times....even in November.
Going around the hairpin on the on the way to Glacier Point is embedded in my brain ...partner was not so happy being on the outside of the curve which has no guardrail and thousands of feet of empty air below.
Yellowstone is astounding ...so was Muir...my photo

Both parks well worth the effort
