Adele does Shirley Bassey.

Adele's new Bond theme, "Skyfall," dropped at 0:07 yesterday, British time. (heh.)

It's good, I think. Very classic.
You know it's a Bond theme, without being told.

I think it hearkens to the good old days of Bond films, when Shirley Bassey sang for Connery's Bond.
Here's her most famous theme:

And this one sounds quite a bit like the "new" one, released yesterday:

Oh, and it turns out that Shirley Bassey was Welsh. Huh.
You all probably knew that.

It's not bad but can't help think that it would have been better with Shirley Bassey singing it.

I'm also infuriated with the way Adele pronounces "tall" as "taw". It ain't proper.

Bond songs sound like bond songs because they use elements of the same musical 'signatures' as the Bond theme music, in terms of either the distinctive chord sequence (which you can hear in this one quite clearly), use of particular chords, or use of particular instruments (especially brass).

Yeah, there's that doooo.....dooo.... doooo.... dooo... repeated motif (I say that like you can tell from typing what I mean. I bet you can, though!)

You know, the part that precedes the BuhDah BWAH daaahh! bwa DAH daaahhhh!

?

The big brass moment from the main theme.

I'll shut up now.
