Tero arriving from planet Zog

Post by Tero » Mon Jul 05, 2010 11:33 am

Not really, I think it was the Richard Dawking forum. Have found those people on another forum as well.

Me,a male in 60s, graduate degree in chemistry. Living in US midwest. Two kids, one going to college.

Spiritual journey: copied from old discussion.

Do you have nagging doubts that God may exist?
I have forgotten if I answered yet. Things went this way:
1. at 16 doubt..pretty much a hard agnostic already
2. 16-32 not really a deep thinking age, and parents etc were into all these rituals that we just did out of habit.
3. at 40-55 lots of discussion on the net
nobody in real life wants to discuss.
Gave Jesus one last try somewhere in there for half a year. "He" was of some use in childhood, so it was nostalgia.
Read one Marcus Borg book.
4. at 53-55 decided all religion was dogma and designed to manipulate people
so, I have no fear of any of it anymore

Yes, it took some 30 years to jump over the edge
I am now a strict materialist. A kinder and gentler strict materialist.

Nice to have you aboard, Tero. We hardly ever argue religion here - mainly we just talk bollocks - actually, that is pretty much the same thing, thinking about it!

Haz you got cheeze?

Welcome!
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

Yes, I am Finnish as well. If you can read Finnish, or look at pictures in Finnish, here are some ancient postings.

Welcome Tero

My path out of theism story is kinda similar to yours, only a shorter time frame. Glad you made it, too.
