People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Hi tom.

Welcome.
:td:

My wife and I are confirmed amerophiles.
We have made several trips to the US and rent camper-vans to do round trips.

We planned to do a trip: Houston-Alamo-Big Bend Nt Park.

But we’ve been put off a bit as the trip would take us close to the Mexican border.
Is the press over-exagerating?

Do you have any idea how safe such a trip would be?

That trip will be very safe. The border violence is mostly across the border from El Paso and Laredo.

My mom was a war bride from Birmingham. Some of her relatives came over and didn't take into account how far apart everything is relative to the size of Great Britain. Keep in mind that things are really spread out here, especially in Texas.

We leave Texas when we go camping. There's a beautiful but basic national campsite five miles outside Silverton, Colorado that we go to. Mineral Creek I think is the name, it's on the road to Ouray.

I'll take this backwards.

1. The trip would be perfectly safe. You can't take a safer trip.

2. Don't worry about the Mexican border, unless you intend to drive 5-9 hours out of your way *and* cross into Mexico. The U.S. side of the Rio Grande - even in places like Laredo and Del Rio (where you aren't going) is 100% safe.

3. Big Bend is tremendously isolated from Mexico. You just can't fathom how far away you are from any Mexican concerns until you go there.

4. Please, please, please make the trip = Houston to AUSTIN to Big Bend. Trust me on this.
