Thanks for the advice guys. My big worry is that I might just get a little complacent between now and December.

A quick update: I'm always fascinated by apparent patterns, and three bike crashes on three consecutive Decembers certainly fits that description, but in the end I don't believe they have any validity as predictors of future events. On the fourth December, I set out to do as much cycling as I could and eventually racked up 1216km in the month. With no crashes. I spotted my earlier mistake: I only seem to come off my bike on dedicated cycle tracks, so nowadays I stick to the much more technically difficult twisty paths that are a feature of the Hong Kong countryside.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Rum. I wondered if, given your familiarity with the Fanling area, you recognized any of the photos in my recent post South Side Story.

By the way, I'll be back in Penrith for the summer at the end of May. The town has a new Wetherspoons, but on the downside, the best pub in town, the Gloucester Arms, has been on an alarming downward spiral for the past few years thanks to a series of moronic landlords. The current incumbent lets in all the idiots banned from every other pub in town.
