Rationalia was founded just a little over a year before RDF's forum was closed down. It opened to the public eight days later. The two founders, Pappa and Charlou, started it in anticipation of the plug being pulled on Dawkins' forum. The abrupt amputation of that forum's "Off-Topic" section seems to have been a fairly clear signal to them in regard to where it was heading. Good prescience, that.

I was the eighth member to join Rationalia on the day it opened to the public, but it was not so much a case of me finding this forum. It sort of found me by virtue of Charlou and I living together at the time. That's why I finished up clicking the "I was sent a link by a friend" option in the poll. Close enough.

I can definitely assert that I heard of Rationalia after Stijndeloose mailed me and mentioned it as a safe haven after the RDS debacle. I never felt the need to move on to Ratskep.

I bet Stijn is sorry he moved on to there.

Almost right but not quite. This place was created as a potential lifeboat because of TAF and Obscured by Clouds' terrible banhammer. Most of us on TAF had left RDF a year earlier.

Cool. I never bothered registering with TAF precisely because I knew what OBC was like as an administrator at RDF, so I totally forgot about that forum when I wrote my above post.

I had noticed a decline in members attendance at RDF for the last couple of month , and was wondering where everybody was going ? Someone at RDF mentioned it .
After IIDB and then RDF , this is my third major atheist forum and  where I want to be buried !

I found it after somebody posted a link at RDF.

I found it welcoming and supportive after I'd been subjected to a sustained and coordinated campaign of cyber bullying on another site.
Rationalia relies on voluntary donations. There is no obligation of course, but if you value this place and want to see it continue please consider making a small donation towards the forum's running costs.
Details on how to do that can be found here.
