Seems like a reasonable and common-sense message to me...

Mind if we argue that one out some other time? Seems to me a practical, everyday reading of the phrase you quote is sufficient to the day thereof, and it doesn't seem like a very urgent issue needing explication stat.Oster wrote:How does one "speak for atheism?"We disassociate ourselves from all abusive individuals, whether anonymous or named, and we disassociate ourselves from all such abusive trolls who plague the media or the internet; they do not speak for atheism or for us at all,...

Excellent letter. Succinct and to the point.
I'm trying to post a blog comment as an unregistered user, but it doesn't accept Heathen as the first word in the phrase "Heathen Hub".

That's why it's an open letter, if you don't agree, don't sign, pretty simple really.Gawdzilla wrote:You don't mind if I speak for me occasionally?Gurdur wrote:Mind if we argue that one out some other time? I disagree. "speak for atheism"? How the fuck does one do that?RuleBritannia wrote:That's why it's an open letter, if you don't agree, don't sign, pretty simple really.Gawdzilla wrote:You don't mind if I speak for me occasionally?Gurdur wrote:Mind if we argue that one out some other time? Well, you're wrong. I don't care for other people "speaking" for me. That letter is badly worded.RuleBritannia wrote:I think you're just arguing for the sake of it really.Gawdzilla wrote:I disagree. No you're wrong, the only instance of the phrase "speak for atheim" is in the following passage:Gawdzilla wrote:Well, you're wrong. I don't care for other people "speaking" for me. "We disassociate ourselves from all abusive individuals, whether anonymous or named, and we disassociate ourselves from all such abusive trolls who plague the media or the internet; they do not speak for atheism or for us at all, no matter how much they claim to do so. As part of that, we have initiated a public discussion about that problem."
What exactly do you object to?

The determination that some people DON'T speak for "atheism", and the implication that others DO. It would have been better to say "do not speak for all atheists" and leave it at that.RuleBritannia wrote:No you're wrong, the only instance of the phrase "speak for atheim" is in the following passage:Gawdzilla wrote:Well, you're wrong.
