Public Respect and Religion
Is there enough respect in religion these days? has it all become too informal? Where is the hand of God these days?

religions are not respectful of anybody not following the same creed they do, they need to learn tolerance.

Religions are so touchy and antsy these days - criticise or ridicule them and they call you a phobic and a racist, and the fucking ungulate shaggers and kiddy-fiddlers ain't got no sense of humour neither

Re: Public Respect and Religion
"The hand of God" keeps getting smaller because the gaps it can continue to exist in keep getting smaller.
One consequence is that this disappearing god becomes increasingly irrelevant, which makes it hard to respect him as the powerful force he was previously perceived to be.
Another is that religious authorities are forced to become increasingly vague about his agency, which in turn hampers any effort to give him a formal definition. It's kind of hard to respect a god who gradually disappears like Lewis Carroll's Cheshire cat, leaving only a faint smile behind.

Re: Public Respect and Religion
To be fair, some mainstream christian denominations have done that, some quite emphatically...

Sure. The gay-friendly (and usually left-leaning) christian denominations are definitely in a minority. The Uniting Church in Oz is one example...
