I think the basic meditation techniques are OK. Not much different from relaxation techniques you could find at a professional therapist for a fee. Wouldn't believe in all the mumbo-jumbo these days too much. Karma and reincarnation and all that wheel of suffering shit are a coherent set of beliefs that might or might not be true like every religions ideas.pErvinalia wrote: ↑Sun May 13, 2018 8:51 amYou sure you came out again?cronus wrote:Meditation is much cheaper than the pub. And the social life so much calmer. Know thyself. No hangover, or 'what happened? where's my shoes? when you wake up to yourself the next day. Can recommend it. Got a Buddhist poster. Book by the Dali Lama. A eight inch Tibetan Buddha statue. Went in deep one time.

I used to practise meditation regularly some years ago. It definitely has a calming and relaxing effect if done regularly and of course it is part o the tradition of a number of religions, notably Hinduism and Buddhism but it is still sometimes confused with what one might call 'contemplation' . Christians 'meditate' on passages in the Bible for example - when they are probably just having a hard think.
Meditation in Buddhist terms - and probably as it is taught as a relaxation tool, is much more about quieting the mind and anxiety related to overthinking stuff.
I stopped out of laziness I think.

I used to love meditating (of a sort) up at the farm. It was a perfect spot for it. No cars, just breeze through the trees and birds (and the odd cow moo).
Sent from my penis using wankertalk.

I do mindfulness. It helps during attacks of headaches.
