Quality does tend to vary though. In a normal pub/bar/cafe (not a specialist whisky one) a single malt I would go for is Glenmorangie. A lovely soft single malt.

interesting, that's one my usual bar usually carries, but that I've never tried. I prefer the heavy, peaty, smokey styles mad on Islay.

The present distillery only exists from 2001. The export wing of Highland Distilleries. The label was used many years ago but for very limited runs. It is the most expensive whisky ever sold at auction. It does not seem to be on sale in Scotland but that is not unusual. The whisky world is a shady place.
I think the modern stuff is travelling on the coat tails of its very old namesake. A good PR stunt.
