I think you misunderstand. He ('we' - i.e. the multiple voices which are the spiritual advisors and angels of one sort or another that Mr U hears), have agreed to allow us to exist for a bit.
I for one am relieved that we've escaped being blasted by holy fire and aren't at this moment small piles of smouldering ashes scattered around the planet, ready to be hoovered up by puzzled partners and the like in the morning.
