It definitely does suck to suffer from mental illness, and I accept that some people are unable to cope and must turn to these 'medications,' I just wish the medical institution was more honest with patients about the very serious effects of them.
Problem is that you never know in advance how somebody will react to a given substance... for instance, my current main head med makes me more or less functional, but does nothing for the pain, it also makes me ravenous. My secondary med makes me unable to cry, without noticeable benefits or other side effects. I don't know if the libido reduction I'm suffering from is due to age or the meds... OTOH, there can be a case for the secondary med being a highly contributing factor... except I have no definitive prooof.

That's a question, ain't it? Do you take the pain, or the soma? Red pill, or blue?

Or the gin...
I'd gladly take the soma if it made it possible for me to sleep with nicely pneumatic ladies... otherwise, I want to be able to handle the stuff.

As for the gin, I prefer highly peated single malts.

When I was a mental health social worker back in the 80s (briefly - hated it) I was struck by how often quite severely ‘ill’ people preferred their symptoms and whatever the fuck was going on in their brains to having them dampened down by medication. Was very common and I’ve never really understood it. It was either that the side effects of the drugs were really nasty or else their delusions were ruling the roost for the moment.

Well, I'm actually suffering from a side effect of my meds, even though I do enjoy to a point the fact that the other med makes me more or less functional... If I didn't have it, I'm not sure how worse my procrastination would be, and whether I would not spend 3/4 of my days in bed instead of in front of the computer, occasionally going out for grocesries shopping or getting drunk at the bar... to a point I wish I could weather out my symptoms... I mean, I remember back my great depression of '91when I no longer was myself, as the little cloud of benzos I was on made me not care for anything . It let me go to my courses at the uni, but not care about or be able to remember them... I could no longer concentrate much on anything, so it diminished my reading. I no longer cared about my hobbies either... shre, I did not suffer and stopped crying all the time, but I wasn't myself anymore.
