But yeah, the countdown has begun - a long time ago - and unless we manage to wipe ourselves out all on your own before than, zero hour will be reached in about 7.6 billion years from now, when the sun will fuse the last of its hydrogen into helium, turn into a red giant and expand to 250 times its current size. We might snuff it before that astronomical event because of another one. In about 3.75 billion years the Andromeda Galaxy and our own will meet and their respective gravitational forces will tear both of them apart. Should we somehow escape both of those disasters, there'll be the universal heat death somewhere further along in about 10100 years. Apparently there is no escape from entropy.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops. - Stephen J. Gould
