Why are Catholics so obsessed with death?

Dr Kathryn Mannix, a consultant in palliative care, from Newcastle upon Tyne, who has seen between 10,000 and 15,000 people in their final hours, says not knowing what dying is like is a modern phenomenon.

(continued, always is a modern phenomenon even in the past, deary) :fp:

Why is Crumple so obsessed with death?

A fragment of a Kipling poem:
I've paid for your sickest fancies; I've humoured your crackedest whim --
Dick, it's your daddy, dying; you've got to listen to him!
Good for a fortnight, am I? The doctor told you? He lied.
I shall go under by morning, and -- Put that nurse outside.
'Never seen death yet, Dickie? Well, now is your time to learn...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!

Obvious answer to the BBC's question. That is where the real money is. Get them rich old un's thinking about where they are going after this life, and what a donation to the Church might achieve in terms of bribing the guy who runs them pearly gates. :tea:

Recursive self-quotation is an important symptom of the Crumple syndrome.

It's this machine. I've given it the ability to self-reflect. :read:

I wonder if it's because Catholics have the fear of God put into them?

Why is modern society so obsessed with avoiding talking about death? Trying to evade death? And shunning the subject around the dying and not allowing them to own their own death?

That's the real question.

In Catholicism, as in many religions, you're not allowed to own your own body or life, let alone your own death.

Christianity, as Hitchens would have it - and who am I to disagree - is a death cult. Not only is it about an impossible means of achieving immortality, but a longing for the state of death - a state somehow more preferable to the sinful state we humans live in, cursed as we are by original sin.

And yet, except for the most faithful perhaps, the fear of death and what it might hold creates a great ambivalence - a terror at times too.

Christianity is truly fucked up. But human are too of course, with or without religion - if a bit more so with.

Of course, to true Catholics, death isn't death at all. It's just a transition to another state.

Funny that they aren't keen on the idea.

To follow their logic, if you have an unwanted pregnancy, it would be best to let it be born, baptise it, and the kill it. It would go straight to blissful heaven. Far better than pissing about down here.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

With that logic all you need are breeding pairs. The rest you baptise and kill.
