Are we finally going to find out what it tastes like?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Why do people keep talking about replicas of the ark? Was there ever an original the various new constructions are a replica of? Do we talk about replicas of the Loch Ness monster?

This is the South Australian version of Nessie. I have never heard of it referred to as a replica.

Yes. They are buried in the sands of the extremely shallow Lake Bumbunga. The water is purplish pink due to its mercury content. Every now and again someone comes up with a scheme to extract it on a commercial scale, but nothing has actually been done about it in the past 100 or more years.

Nessie is the prime tourist attraction of a village called Lochiel. Some locals claim it's actually Nessie's cousin, but as you know, outback types love to bullshit. I think it is Nessie's great-granddaughter.

As you approach the hamlet from the north or south, you'll be greeted by a sign with its name on it and the number of millimetres of rain it receives annually on average. The number is 285, and I think that piece of information of the settlement is provided in lieu of its population because it is higher.

This is Lochiel's shopping centre.

There used to be a pub too, but it burnt down a couple of years ago.

Doubt it. I used to drive past it on many occasions, and it always looked well patronised. On Friday nights you could see as many as four vehicles in it scar park - six and a tractor if the Friday coincided with the Queen's birthday.
