Religion is unkindness

Post by Tero » Sat Nov 07, 2015 1:51 pm

Children from religious families are less kind and more punitive than those from non-religious households, according to a new study.

They were asked to choose stickers and then told there were not enough to go round for all children in their school, to see if they would share. They were also shown film of children pushing and bumping one another to gauge their responses.

The findings “robustly demonstrate that children from households identifying as either of the two major world religions (Christianity and Islam) were less altruistic than children from non-religious households”.

Children in religious families show less willingness to share than children in non religious families.

Religious people are not as nice as atheists.

Nothing new. Luckily we have few religious families yes very few so few in fact that in a city of 600,000 there are just two churches managing to keep going as a normal church. We have a couple still open but no services. We have also plenty of empty churches because they are unsaleable.

My problem is that one of the churches still operating is across the road from my apartment. I counted 10 people going in this morning.

We in Africa like religious people. They provide us with food.

What can be kinder than that?

When I lived in Hong Kong we had some refugee USA missionaries who fled China following to revolution. The mainland Chinese who became convertees were known as 'rice Christians', for the obvious reason that they were Christians so long as they got their daily ration of rice and the not so well known fact that they stopped getting rice if they decided Christianity wasn't for them.

When I was a Christian many, perhaps most, of my fellows were motivated to 'do good' by the wish to go to everlasting paradise, rather than the truly altruistic motivation of feeling empathy for their fellow humans.

God is the supreme judgmental cunt. The religious aim to be more 'God-like'. So they become more and more like supreme judgmental cunts. :tea:

You better be careful. God will burn you in the fires of hell for all eternity, if you accuse him of being cruel or vengeful.
