Here are two propositions.

1. The 15 year old daughter of the family next door is pregnant. On questioning, she claims to be a virgin.

2. A 2000 year old book describes a girl, roughly 15 years old, who becomes pregnant. She claims to be a virgin.

Which, if either of the above propositions do you believe? Why?

What do you think of those people who believe either proposition?

You can have that for several days every four weeks, provided your partner's name/s is/are Mary and young enough to still have the "change of life" ahead. If you go cross eyed you'll even get a double.

I believe neither. And I think that people who do have a complete lack of understanding of how pregnancy works. They might believe that a child is a "seed" planted inside a woman or something outdated like that, though even with such a belief I still don't know how they think a seed magically appeared. They probably also believe that flies magically appear out of decaying meat.
The sad part is many of them probably don't believe the those thing anymore either. Which leaves them without excuse.

The whole "virgin mary" dogma is ridiculous...

then again it's possible that either or both marys were ignorant enough to not realize they had lost their virginity, or were raped while drunk or drugged and never knew about it, however improbable good faith is.

The first is more problematic. Fantasy is trivial and reality less so. :nono:

I would believe some alien culture coming and taking out one of her eggs and fertilizing it with sperm from...hmm, a Roman soldier ?...and putting it all back in the ovary duct by syringe. But why would they do it?

Of course, the holey book is riddled with fallacies you could drive a bus through. Why do people believe this stuff anyway?

Is it vacuoles on the brain or sumthin?

It doesn't matter how Mary became pregnant, what matters is the welfare of the child. How is Mary's child going to feel growing to adulthood unduly burdened by a convenient if plainly ridiculous fiction, maintained for social convenience, and without its father in its life compared to knowing the honest facts about its conception and accepting the uncomfortable truth that its mum was once a bit of a skank?

Mary was a minor. It is her parents fault is he got into skankery. Or perhaps she was an orphan by then.

More likely her hubby was shooting blanks or seriously into goats or something and she had to meet her maternal obligations by other means.
