Atheism and the Sex Drive

Does atheism increase or decrease your sex drive? If you used to be religious did you find throwing away those shackles gave you aextra or something?

What makes you think I threw away the shackles?
I keep them in a drawer by the bed. :naughty:

I don't know if my sex drive has increased, so much as my resistance to actually follow through with boinking has decreased - and opportunities to boink attractive and intelligent men (and potentially women; I still haven't got past 1st base there :shifty: ) have increased.

My sexuality is a long, complex and somewhat sordid tale, going right back to early childhood - which I've never quite managed to sort through properly myself. (All of which consensual, I'll just state for the record.) I wasn't a virgin when I became a Christian at 16. I was no stranger to lust, and it didn't evaporate when I caught religion. I resisted sex more, but went through spates of guilty shagging - some of which, frankly, on reflection, weren't worth the tears I made baby Jesus cry!

I could go on, but it's late. :tea:

At least for me, it fuels my sex drive with the whole "only one life....one chance..take the bull by the horns" mentality.

Yes it was real exciting when we were catholics for two years and I had to buy rubbers in the next town. This was before the internet.

In order to see the results, I guessed "decreased" based on the fact that most religions encourage people to have sex to reproduce. I had to guess since I've never been religious; subtract out that answer if you want more objective statistics.

Crumple - you might have wanted to specify "irreligiosity" rather than just "atheism" as your marker, and should have included an option of "no change"… Buddhists are strictly speaking atheists, but I really don't envisage them carousing and running off to fornicate in the best available places, like happens so often at meetings of the likes of ourselves. (I speak broadly: one of my first experiences at the atheist convention in Melbourne last year was hearing the sound of some people enjoying some kind of sexual activity in the gents' toilet…)

And being religious doesn't stop some crackpots hiring rentboys to lift their luggage. :hehe:
Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.
Prithee, nuncle, keep a schoolmaster that can teach
thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.

You don't have an option for no change. Finding my atheism didn't change my sex drive at all. Of course, I always ignored biblical sexual taboos anyway-- part of that believe-only-what-you-like-out-of-the-bible kind of christianity that's so popular these days.

I voted increased. I am referring to my sex DRIVE, unfortunately not my actual amount of sex.

That sadly remains at 0. :(

Just follow the naughty bits:

The Song of Solomon
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
for your love is more delightful than wine.
3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;
your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the young women love you!
4 Take me away with you—let us hurry!
Let the king bring me into his chambers.
\
Like an apple
tree among the trees of the forest
is my beloved among the young men.
I delight to sit in his shade,
and his fruit is sweet to my taste.
Your breasts are like two fawns,
like twin fawns of a gazelle
that browse among the lilies.
6 Until the day breaks
and the shadows flee,
I will go to the mountain of myrrh
and to the hill of incense.
7 You are altogether beautiful, my darling;
there is no flaw in you.
How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride!
How much more pleasing is your love than wine,
and the fragrance of your perfume
more than any spice!
11 Your lips drop sweetness as the honeycomb, my bride;
milk and honey are under your tongue.
The fragrance of your garments
is like the fragrance of Lebanon.
12 You are a garden locked up, my sister, my bride;
you are a spring enclosed, a sealed fountain.
13 Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates
with choice fruits,
with henna and nard,
14 nard and saffron,
calamus and cinnamon,
with every kind of incense tree,
with myrrh and aloes
and all the finest spices.
15 You are a garden fountain,
a well of flowing water
streaming down from Lebanon.

Awake, north wind,
and come, south wind!
Blow on my garden,
that its fragrance may spread everywhere.
Let my beloved come into his garden
and taste its choice fruits.

Your graceful legs are like jewels,
the work of an artist’s hands.
2 Your navel is a rounded goblet
that never lacks blended wine.
Your waist is a mound of wheat
encircled by lilies.
3 Your breasts are like two fawns,
like twin fawns of a gazelle.
4 Your neck is like an ivory tower.
Your eyes are the pools of Heshbon
by the gate of Bath Rabbim.
Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon
looking toward Damascus.
5 Your head crowns you like Mount Carmel.
Your hair is like royal tapestry;
the king is held captive by its tresses.
6 How beautiful you are and how pleasing,
my love, with your delights!
7 Your stature is like that of the palm,
and your breasts like clusters of fruit.
8 I said, “I will climb the palm tree;
I will take hold of its fruit.”
May your breasts be like clusters of grapes on the vine,
the fragrance of your breath like apples,
9 and your mouth like the best wine.

I was never religious... and my sex drive's always been high. Coincidence? I think not! :dance:
