Re: The real 10 Commandments.
Magnificent. I was especially touched by this one:
7. Thou SHALT live this one life thou hast to its fullest.
We do not believe in an afterlife nor that we will be reincarnated to live again in another form. It is, therefore, imperative that we live this one life we have to its fullest. We should not live in a puritanical way, starving ourselves of pleasures, in hopes that it somehow makes us better or that we will be judged more favorably in our "next life". However, in living our lives to the fullest, we must always be conscious of our actions to ensure that they do not have adverse effects on our fellow man.

Re: The real 10 Commandments.
I first saw that link at ATS. Some people were saying that the word "commandment" shouldn't be used as it gets into religious territory. My response:
The fact that the Hebrews codified already existing rules of societal behavior and used "God" to enforce them was simply a hijack of the mores already existing in their society. So religion is a hanger-on in this case, not a prime mover.

I'd like to add in my own, seldom adhered to, commandment.
Thous shalt not get drunk and make a tit of yourself.

Shut it. Just. Because.

Thou shalt not be an atheist, make a list of ten commandments and then parade them around.

"The fact is that far more crime and child abuse has been committed by zealots in the name of God, Jesus and Mohammed than has ever been committed in the name of Satan. Many people don't like that statement but few can argue with it."

A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return.

If we are having a grammar-nazi party I may as well pop in a for a quick chat and a snack before making an awkward excuse and hurrying away.
I found the commandments worth thinking about, and they reminded me of another set I have seen--let me see if I remember where they are or if I can even find them... nope, apparently not today. They were different than the ones above in several ways but along similar lines.
