He says
What use is the "Big Bang" theory to the scientific method? And what came before the "Big Bang"? And what came before that? And what....

"But scientists have provided convincing and statistically sound evidence of the "Big Bang" and that it magically appeared out of nowhere and out of nothing to "create" this world."
I respond
You can propose your own theory of matter and time. You do not have to take the big bang as dogma. But just because you do not know how the stuff got here does not justify "magic" as the answer.

There is also no reason to require causes and purposes. Those words are best left for acts of man. We have records of man and his doings.

You should do a blog on "Who really won the war in Heaven?" Christians might be worshiping the winner of that war, but how would we know the "good guy" actually won, given the fact that the King of Lies would be likely to rewrite history if he won.

I actually have a atheist-spiritual blog, but it is hidden. I hid it. This is from 2008. You may use it, no copyrights. Quote it as Tero.
So you decided to become an atheist, what now?

First, if you got here through a traumatic experience, you need a fresh start. Move houses, change jobs, move to Alaska, whatever it takes to break off.

I am not here to tell you how to become an atheist. I also have to explain that I am a Unitarian. I do not deny the feelings people have about spiritual things. You have to deal with those on an individual basis. But try to pick friends who can be a bit rational as well, even if they need these spiritual things.

OK, so, now we are atheists, you and me. You still go to work, you eat and sleep. You get sick, go to the doctor. Life is pain and pleasure and sometimes boredom. You have a nice meal and it still tastes as good as before. You enjoy your friends, relatives, the sun shines and you can be happy. You are free! The philosophical concept of free will is unprovable. But you are unique, you are the product of your genes and your personal history. It is nature and nurture. You may be gifted. Be thankful, be happy, you can do more stuff in your life than someone else. Who do we thank? Our genetic heritage and out parents for their love. If you did it all on your own and did not become a selfish person in your struggle, pat yourself on the back. Buy yourself an ice cream cone, I give you permission.

Sin is still a concept, but we atheists need another person, or the vague “world” to sin against. If you sin against a person, you need to apologize. If you have “sinful thoughts”, forget them and forgive yourself. If you have guilt, talk it out with a friend. Donate to a charity if that helps you.

Your religious friends will come around and pity you, because “your life has no meaning”. You just smile back and tell them they are silly. Buy them and ice-cream cone. If they persist in this line of thinking, tell them you love them, and that you will never again discuss religion with them. If they are close to you, give them a little hug.

Some things never change. Love is real, life is real, flowers still come up in the spring. Find someone you can love and not end up with ideological conflicts with. If you need some sort of spiritual interaction, if you need help with life issues, and still need to seek for some sort of meaning, study nature for example. The creatures in nature are perfectly happy in the present, they live fully every minute. They can’t all be wrong.

There may be someone out there who claims I am not atheistic enough (merely an agnostic), I give too much credit to emotion as a valid thing. You have problems, you will spend time reading a lot of books looking for meaning. There is not going to be any solution in books. Philosophy is a bunch of crap. If you need to read something, read Atheism, a short introduction, by Julian Baggini.

Don’t collect money and stuff, money does not bring much happiness. Have a good life!

One of the bits there

Code: Select all

If you want to prevent an epidemic, you need to vaccinate enough people to produce a herd immunity. Well, education is the vaccination against creationism, against religious fundamentalism and terrorism, against all kinds of memetic epidemics that pose just as much of a threat as real diseases. It's not enough to say to people, "The vaccine is out there, go seek it out on your own" - we need to bring it to as many as possible. This isn't an act of altruism, in my mind, but an essential for the survival of a free, democratic state in a technologically advanced world.

I remember watching a documentary by Rod Liddle. I'd always considered him reasonably erudite and often insightful. However, this particular programme, The Trouble With Atheism, exposed him to be less-than brilliant, as he erected the same tired, old canards and noisome drivel we've come to expect from apologists.

In short, it was embarrassing tripe, and vastly lessened by impression of the man.

I almost get this. But then it turns meaningless.
What if religion has it wrong and we are not here to be tested but for a reference. I look at the universe and to me it must have been made by a very practical and logical god. Most religions have that you are here to be tested if good you go to heaven bad to hell. A god would know what type of person you would be under any circumstance. If it is true that you have an immortal soul then your 90 are so years on earth would mean nothing even the whole 10000 - 20000 years of human life would would have little meaning. So maybe were here as a reference. If you do have an immortal soul without never having a mortal existence, immortality not only would have know meaning to you but explaining it would be like explaining the color red to a blind man or sounds to someone born with out hearing. Know matter what happened to you while you were mortal would have been less then the tick of a clock in a billion years of immortality, Maybe that is why God doesn't get involved as this mortal existence would have little meaning in the total scheme of things.

Old fart on the net challenged me, he has been on our forum some 12 years. He is a grandpa now and enjoys visiting grandkids.

Elämän tarkoitus on lajitella ihmiset kahteen kategoriaan:
1: Uskot ja jatkat matkaa kohti paratiisia.
2: Et usko, kuolet ja lakkaat olemasta.

Valintasi?

The purpose of life is to categorize people into two categories:
1. You believe and continue your way to paradise.
2, You don't believe and stop existing?

Your choice?

I told him he should enjoy the grandkids here, as that is his only chance at paradise. He did not respond.

I did not comment on her post. She is a nice grandma, booked me on some Icelandic flights once.
May I ask my facebook family, wherever you may be, to kindly copy, paste, and share this status for one hour to give a prayer or nod of support to all those who have family problems, struggles, and just need to know that someone cares. Do it for all of us, for no one is immune. I hope to see this on the walls of all my friends just for moral support. I know someone will!!! I did it for a friend... and for me as well... and i am doing it for everyone across the world.

And? I'm not all that much interested in the thinking of the last 2000 years. Some 1900s events as they are still around, but I've seen this so many times all I can think of is True Scotsman argument.
