The very act of communication where "words are meaningless and forgettable" causes the narrator so much pain, thus leading him to seek silence and to hide himself away as the only form of happiness he can find. (Link) There is nothing predictive about the song, nor the fact that the band is lip-synching it atop Tower #2 of the WTC.

As for the quattrain itself, it does not reference the pop band. It refers to an inscription, "D.M." which is to be found in the ancient cave, revealed by a lamp. Doesn't say which ancient cave. The rest, "Law, the King and Prince Ulpian tried, the Queen and Duke in the pavilion under cover." is just utter mumbo jumbo. What law? which king? Who is Prince Ulpian? What is their connection with a pop band named Depeche Mode, and what about "the pavilion under cover"?

Do you think the dead care if they are remembered? They are dead. With death comes extinction.

A thought occurred to me about your buddy Nossy. Given how long in the future many of his so called predictions were the people at the time would not have had a clue as to whether he was right. So they were pretty gullible weren't they? Of course the Enlightenment had not yet happened back than nor had the scientific method been developed based on reason and logic so perhaps they can be forgiven for being duped.

You on the other hand have no excuse - other than your mental ill health perhaps.
