Sure, he had a vision (admirable perhaps, but somewhat unrealistic) of a future humanist state built on authentic human interaction. But, he had not the slightest belief in the supernatural, not your nasty little god, not anyone's god. He would have been both amused in your co-option of his beliefs, and appalled by your delight in the medieval concepts of divine punishment that provide you with a sick form of satisfaction, probably aberrantly sexual in nature.

Now the question is as follows: if the working classes are too integrated, weak, and disorganized to activate the revolution then which catalyst would be strong enough? Now we must seek for a revolutionary agent elsewhere. Marcuse never found this revolutionary agent, and this is where the supernatural steps in.
