DEADLINE OF SUBMISSION INFO:

Quite a few people have been asking me about a deadline for getting their essay in for the book. There's no real rush currently as I'm finishing up my MSc project from now until November, so I might put the deadline around the end of January of 2012. So let's say Jan 31st for now, and if things change as I'm sure they will we can reassess things.

So for anyone writing an essay currently, or hoping to write one in the future, feel free to send them to me at petedarwin@gmail.com anytime from now until January. However, I may not be able to read it and offer feed back instantly, but I promise to reply to all submissions as soon as I am able.

Cheers,

Pete

The title as it stands will appear offensive to any potential publisher - as you will already have gleaned if you have the intelligence to put this together, from the reactions here, though personally I don't give a fuck (yes I can still do that despite being 60 btw). 'Grey hair' indeed. You might just get away with it if the title directly refers to what you are trying to get at - i.e. younger people's experience of becoming atheist. It is still an odd differentiation. Younger people probably as a generalisation find it easier to escape religion these days than a generation or two ago. I would have thought the really interesting stories will come from those who have had to fight to escape its grip. Another stance might be a 'then and now' approach - changing attitudes etc.

The title isn't set in stone, and I might add that it was meant to be humorous and in no way offensive. The main objective of this project is to put something together that other people the same age, give or take, as myself can connect with. I have read countless books of older generation atheists and how they came to atheism, but unless I specifically ask other people my age about their own story and experiences I have close to no exposure to it in the atheist world. That's my own experience though I admit. I do not mean to belittle what older atheists have experienced or their importance in our community. The whole idea was just to create something for the younger kids to read and in which to present their own stories and experiences for a change.

You're definitely right though, it would be brilliant to contrast stories of people across all generations past and present and how they came to atheism. The evolution of coming to atheism as it were.

Thanks for your input Rum, I do appreciate it. The same for everyone else who's taken the time to comment here.

Pete
