[quote="95Theses"
Scientists make observations about the way things behave in the real world, and then set out to show why they happen like that and how they will behave in the future.

What is the rational reason to assume that the future will behave like a past? If matter is not controlled by a Person, then at any moment it can start to behave a different way.

Note that atheists can't even provide a rational justification for the thing they cherish the most! 17 replies and not one sign of a rational argument.

At least Christians have rational arguments to defend their faith; it seems atheists have given up to defend what they believe and are just resigned to have a worldview based on blind faith.

Why do you assume it will work in the future? If atheism is true, there is no rational reason to believe that.

Answer supplied, if you're too delusional to cope with it that isn't my problem.

Why are you making a sweeping assumption that all atheists trust science?

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

May I respectfully suggest that 'belief' is not what rationalists do?

So let's say we have the following numbers: 2,4,6,8,10,13.

What you're doing is stopping at the number 10 and protesting that the next number MUST be 12, because why? IT WORKS!!! IT WORKS!!! + 2, +2, +2. IT WORKS!!! The next number is 12, because it works!!!

You can protest all night long, but the next number in the serie is 13.

If you're going to be a rational person, you just can't say "it works!".

To answer your OP.

Why do I "trust" science?

As opposed to what? Religion? Post-Modernist Philosophy?

The Scientific Method has a self correcting feedback loop.
This is why I "trust" it.

Have you noticed I've not mentioned atheism?

Want to know why?
Because, I think, that one has fuck all to do with the other.

I trust science because of the scientific method, evidence is abound. I reject claims about god(s) because they sound like a load of made up toss, no evidence.

10 Fuck Off
20 GOTO 10

I seriously hope you're kidding and realize that it is not a proper analogy, or else perhaps some introductory course in logic and philosophy of science would be helpful.
