...tells me that the church of scientology has been given equal legal rights to other religions by the CPS here in the UK last month.
This follows an incident here last summer when a 15 year-old boy was arrested under religious hate laws at a peaceful demonstration for calling them a cult.
I have been unable to find confirmation of this anywhere so with any luck I could well be wrong. But, if it is true then surely this is the thin end of a large and insidious wedge
Somebody prove me wrong......please!
My source said they read it in the paper.....I forgot to ask which one.
About me: I have prehensile eyebrows. I speak 9 languages fluently, one of which other people can also speak. When backed into a corner, I fit perfectly - having a right-angled arse.
Much as I despise them, they should be treated the same as any other religion simply because, essentially, they are the same: artificial, human, control constructs based upon false premises regarding interfering, external forces seeking to regulate human actions.
Rather than not recognising them as a religion, we should be recognising ALL religions as the pile of dangerous, made-up shit that they actually are and according no special protection under law to any of them.
A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return. Salman Rushdie You talk to God, you're religious. God talks to you, you're psychotic. House MD Who needs a meaning anyway, I'd settle anyday for a very fine view. Sandy Denny This is the wrong forum for bluffing Paco Yes, yes. But first I need to show you this venomous fish! Calilasseia I think we should do whatever Pawiz wants. Twoflower Bella squats momentarily then waddles on still peeing, like a horse Millefleur

I'm half inclined to agree with you but let's face it - scientology uses some very aggressive "marketing techniques" and make a point of getting those with power on their side. They have already been seducing our police force (Metropolitan at least). Look at how they have used the police to their own advantage in places like Clearwater, Florida.

And xians and moslems don't use 'aggressive marketing techniques'? I'd call Madrassas and Sunday schools pretty aggressive, not to mention 'faith schools'! Scientologists are no worse - and no better. Religion is evil.

Again, I'm inclined to agree but I think you're underestimating the insidious nature and greed of scientology.
I do hope I'm wrong on all counts but......

I see your point. And I concur that some of the tactics employed by Xenu's boys are a little worrying. But I still say that all religions are just as insidious and greedy. Islam's customary 'outrage' at any slight on their particular mythos. Catholicism's cult of personality regarding the 'infallible' pope. TV evangelists 'healing' poor, deluded fuckers in front of a live audience. Yogis and mystics conning gullible westerners with showground fakery and ambiguous bullshit. Mormons and JWs doorknocking the fucking world. All of these are equally slimy tactics to those employed by the scientologists. Religion is the oldest and biggest con trick in the world - can't blame the Hubbardists for wanting their own slice of the pie.

I don't think you quite understand the danger Scientology poses.
Operation Show White.
