Gender is not an inherent trait. Sex is an inherent trait. Gender is mutable, and dependent on how people feel or how they "identify." Further, in Canada, Netherlands, Germany, and other countries, hate speech laws extend to religions.pErvin wrote:That's not what "hate speech" usually is. Given an opportunity, I shall explain the errors of their ways.Forty Two wrote:Blasphemy is hate speech. Isn't the theory that the individual speaking the words doesn't get to define what's offensive and hurtful to groups protected by hate speech laws? Also, your words might incite hatred by other people toward a protected group. Inciting contempt toward a religion's deity, may incite contempt toward the religion and its adherents.

Undoubtedly there are people who hold that theory. The words with which I started my post, ("I regard") and the following ones should have made it abundantly clear that I disagree.Forty Two wrote:Isn't the theory that the individual speaking the words doesn't get to define what's offensive and hurtful to groups protected by hate speech laws?
Protected group? Never mind. Other people would be idiots. I suggest we kill them with fire. And then kill them some more.Forty Two wrote:your words might incite hatred by other people toward a protected group.

Hate speech... I hate : The right wing(in all of it's conservative incarnations ) religion (especially those that want to turn back time to the dark ages )
corn ( maize or whatever you call it, however you cook it) Jazz ( There are not words to describe how odious jazz is; the faintest hint of Jazz can ruin anything )
The French (obviously, who doesn't ? ) Celery ( mostly I blame the french for this, it's the culinary version of jazz )
"spiced" rum ( rancid vanilla flavouring is not a spice ) .

Re: Happy International Blasphemy Day!
immutable =/= inherent. People don't chose their gender like they chose what they will wear that day. It's part of their internal make up. And just because someone at some point decides not to follow the gender assigned to them by society and instead decides to express their inherent gender doesn't mean it is mutable. You are mixing up the expression with the internal state.Forty Two wrote:Gender is not an inherent trait. Sex is an inherent trait. Hmm, I didn't realise religion was so prevalent in hate speech laws. It bloody well shouldn't be. Fuck religion.Further, in Canada, Netherlands, Germany, and other countries, hate speech laws extend to religions.
