Welby: backing gay marriage could be 'catastrophic' for Christians elsewhere

The Archbishop of Canterbury has said the Church of England accepting gay marriage could be "catastrophic" for Christians in other parts of the world.

The Most Rev Justin Welby told LBC that hundreds of Christians in Africa had been killed by people who associated Christianity with homosexuality.

He warned the same could happen if the Church of England backed gay unions.

Same-sex marriage became legal in England and Wales last week, but is not supported by the Church.

(continued,no more martyrs anymore)

Uh, what? The positions of the CoE became irrelevant to chretinity abroad (except as pertains to the exportation of dissenters) as soon as Henry VIII took charge.

Them Frikans wouldn't associate chretinity with homosexuality if there were fewer gay clergymen to begin with.

More likely that African Anglicans would schism away from the mother church...

Someone should get some expert social anthropologists in on the ground and check out the guys claims? See what the danger to vulnerable souls really is? If valid it is imperative that his argument is taken into account, after Rwanda.
