Corruption in Africa
Zimbabwe verkoopt 500 olifanten aan plezierjagers uit geldgebrek door de coronacrisis
"Zimbabwe sells 500 elephant hunting licences to trophy hunters because of the lack of money due to the corona crisis".
Even though they are an endangered species. Crazy.

The elephants shouldn't use their endangered privilege to oppress hunters into a poverty of not having ivory and leather.

Re: Corruption in Africa
I don't mind as long as it's an egalitarian corruption. When it's only the powerful it's a bad thing, but when anyone can bribe a cop it's a good thing.
In Nigeria you bribed everybody for everything. The hotel clerk, the gas station attendant, everyone got "dashi". We called it a "pre-service service charge".

Re: Corruption in Africa
The same is true in Mexico. If you had to go and get a licence from the local government which are very many. My sister raised her garden walls in her country house. They were two metres but because of rich kids always partying she raised them to three and half metres she required ten licences. Just think of the back handers required. You even had to bribe the doorman to let you in to start off with. Then the liftboy and the other doormen who just opened doors. Every door has one and they have to pay the gangmaster as well. You have not even reached the counter. Corruption is evil as it saturates society with greed. Watch out for the little kids selling sweets. They are always in groups and put your hand in your pocket and plenty will follow.

Elephants are not endangered in Southern Africa. They need to be culled as there are too many for environmental balance.
I'd not expect a Dutchman to understand that.
I believe you might've seen an elephant in a zoo, but that's as far as your knowledge goes. Rather shut up when you don't know what you're talking about.

You dont understand what corruption is because it is your way of life. It is second nature to you. Greasing palms. Did you read the rest of the thread? Probably not as it does not interest you. Corruption is your way of life as with almost all of Africa.

I'm not saying it's useless, but for a guy so concerned about data's integrity and relevance I think relying on the "perceived levels according to experts and businesspeople" might warrant some skepticism.
The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

Re: Corruption in Africa
Doesn't matter if elephants go extinct. The mammoth went extinct and nothing changed. Regarding corruption, maybe there are two many lawyers rather than too many crooks. My guess is a healthy society in Africa or anywhere runs on the envelope of cash and business deal done by a nod and wink. Whereas the unhealthy society is full of utilitarian bean counters making everyone's life hell, with no fiscal give in the system...until one day the markets crash big time and massive economic depression. At which point the brown-nose 'honest' sort will join with the human race and get real also.

Just a typical story:
Africa's richest woman has to give her 422 million Euro's worth of fraudulent gained shares back to her Angolan government.
No corruption does not happen in Africa.
