Yuri Gargarin - Would he be more famous as an American?

Everyone recalls Neil Armstrong, the first man to plant a white flag on the moon for to signal Earths surrender to the coming alien armada. But does anyone even know there was a first man in space before him these days?

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

He wasn't the first great ape in space, though.

Can the average person on the street tell you who the first American in space was? Would they be more likely to remember that than Gargarin's place in history? I don't think so.

Don't sell Russian propaganda efforts short. They may not have the saturation level that American propagandists have, but they've always done an effective job as these things go. Gargarin probably would be slightly more famous if he had been American, but at this point I think the difference is minimal. It's all so last century, dude.

If he'd been American they would have named an airport after him.

The Russians did think of that, and recently doubled down.

The average person in the street is, from all indications, thick as pig shit.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

And half the population is even worse than that.

Congratulations for being so above average, laklak.

Yuri Gargarin - Would he be more famous as an American?
Probably. He'd probably also be more plump.

Then again, now that I think about it, our astronauts tend to stay pretty fit even after they retire from um astronauting. I can't thnk of a single chubby US astronaut. Maybe we solve our obesity problem by forcing all Merkins to become astronauts... :thinks:

The first man-made satellite to orbit earth was named...?

A year later the US launched its first satellite. Its name was...?

I think the Russian cosmonauts should have been fatter. For the hard landings. Ours landed in water.

it's not a real satellite unless there is a surf instrumental named after it:
