The 'hoax' is a concoction of Scott Adams, apparently. The fact is that Trump did say there were 'very fine people on both sides'. While that in itself isn't necessarily evidence of his racism, there is an abundance of evidence for Trump's racism which has nothing to do with his blithering in the aftermath of Charlottesville (not a tweet--it was in response to a reporter's question). Later, in response to another question, Trump did some back-filling and said:
You're changing history. You're changing culture [referring to the removal of statues glorifying iconic Confederates]. And you had people -- and I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists -- because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists.

I know I can. I have.

Not today though. My sweetheart has an ultra (24h race) and I am 'crew'.

I never did an ultra, being more of a 10K guy, although I did some marathon length runs for fun. I switched to cycling after a bad ankle and knee injury in my late 20's. Much less impact.

Funny, that's why I choose the anti-fragility I earn from the impact. Trailrunning over roads, over track, over treadmill. (though I climbed this ladder in the opposite direction)

I never did a marathon. Did a 50, but I'm a bit disorganized.

For me, it was an alignment problem that showed up when I ran. Too much play in the joints on the injured leg impacted a nerve that runs along the side of the knee. It was funny. I could do a century ride and be back on the bike the next day for an easy spin, but run or walk half a mile and I had pain and loss of feeling for a week.

Finally, a physical therapist figured out a combination of ultrasound and balance exercises that helped me with long walks, but distance running is still out.

Maybe someday. They keep learning more every year.

I had a couple years where I could run 100k a week, but walking was hard and I would limp after any amount. Now I'm good both ways, but I credit it to engaging my opposition against physio.

Two pieces - first - fuck physio. 90% of it is a waste of time. (because you SHOULD be exercised)

Second piece - respect practitioners so highly, that when they bring me in for assessment, there is NO strength shortage or imbalance they will find.

This eliminates all the usual stuff. First thing they always do, is to recommend you stop being weak wherever you can. You don't need major strength, but to address the cracks and creaks, the best chance is with a fully functional leg (or whatever)

So I try to outfox them by being in such good shape, mobility-wise, that they have to do ACTUAL work if they see me. There is a 'star test' I've modified, which helps me ensure my legs are strong throughout the whole range they might function. It's demanding, and slows training considerably, but I'm not in that much of a hurry.

Physio is physiotherapy, as prescribed by docs. A physiotherapist is basically a body movement expert.

So they generally help rebuild after injury. When I found them, my pain led me there. Lady put me through some basic exercises, and said 'what the FUCK Cunt! Your left gluteus medius is WAY weaker than your right. That CAN'T be good.

I disagreed hotly, because other than a little crack, my ass is GOOD.

Then she showed me, via a simple exercise, that my right was indeed weaker.

I worked to make them match since. The pain has gone. The two are not necessarily connected, but I vowed to not go to that clinic for plain exercise anymore.

It seems like a waste of professional time.

That sounds like what we call physical therapists, but I don't understand why you have a problem with the service you received. You had a problem with pain that I assume you couldn't figure out, and a professional helped you figure out the cause of the pain so you could rid yourself of it.

What's wrong with that?

Just me.

If I had been more informed/diligent about exercising my muscles (a VERY simple thing) then I wouldn't have needed a pro. My goal is to eliminate 90% of their work from my life, by being correctly exercised. Most of what they do, is simply telling people how to exercise something that needs it. Once all your muscles are good (strong enough) then any problem is worth applying specialist training to.

What they can do is incredibly valuable. What the mostly end up doing could be done by any trainer who knows the basics. I am very reluctant to waste their time on those basics. A trainer here earns 20-30 bucks an hour, but a physio earns closer to 50-100.

So it is engaging my opposition to work hard enough that they NEVER have to tell me those basics again.

Last time I saw them, was for something that strength could not help (my shoulder, which was already well exercised. They identified the problem, demonstrated and prescribe unique exercises to regain my range of motion, and followed up a couple times to track progress. That was very valuable and worth 'spending' the professional on. If I got told my glute medius was still weak on one side, that would be MY fault, MY lack etc.

I believe in taking as much responsibility as possible for my health. That includes not wasting doc time, or physio time.

I guess it's like going to the dentist if you don't brush your teeth. They can help, but not as much as your daily amateur effort could.

My lower back gives me problems from time to time, which a session with my physio usually fixes. However, she also gave me a set of stretching exercises to do, which I do every morning, and also said that regular walking would help. Doing those things, I may only need some treatment once or twice a year...

That's EXACTLY what I mean. Work hard so that they only have to give you the complicated service.

Many of physio problems stem from too much difference in strength between one set of muscles and another. Bringing up the 'weak ones' usually isn't all that hard, just a bit of targeting to balance things out.

Yeah, that's been my experience as well. I go to the PT for the serious stuff like recovery from an injury, or something that I don't know how to fix myself.

I don't phrase it easily, but I try hard to deny those greedy fuckers all the easy money.

Of course I treat the easy work they do with respect as well, I just don't respect myself when I go all that way, only to get told I should exercise. I think I have it figured out now. Running builds a LOT in some areas, while neglecting others. Have to keep on top of that. Runners famously resist resistance training. :)
