You seem upset. Are you upset with me, Brian? I'll try to be nicer. I'm sorry.

Re: The Trump Pandemic
I mostly agree here, particularly in the current context of Trump. It would not be quite as cogent a point with a standard, moderately conservative Republican contender, but voting Trump out is surely an imperative.Seabass wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 6:11 pmRegarding your view that putting Dems in office is worthless, I have to strenuously disagree with you. We only have two choices: the retrograde policies and cruelty, racism, and christofascism of the Republicans, or slow progress with the Dems. Activism has its place, but the ultimate goal of activism to get the laws changed. The Civil Rights movement of the 60s would have been worthless if it wasn't followed by the Civil Rights Act.
Does that mean I think the Dems are perfect? No. Do I think they are infallible? No. Do I think they are the bee's knees and the cat's pajamas? Of course not. But they are unfortunately the only viable option for Americans who aren't monstrous Christians or white nationalists. No, they won't fix everything overnight, but over time, you keep chipping away and things get better for people. That's all anyone can reasonably hope for in this fucked up place.
Having said that, once Trump goes, it will be important, as Brian suggests, to maintain a robust critique of political systems that still fail far too many poorer people, under any party...

So, take it back to Bush the First?
Last that was heard of his sort, they were being hounded out as despicable RINOs. That branch of the party is laying very low, if they're not completely defunct. We're living in the days of such shining lights as Jim Jordan, Tom Cotton, and Mike Pompeo.

Not as outlandish as:
Sinclair Television said on Saturday it would delay airing an interview with a conspiracy theorist who claims baselessly that Dr Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease expert, created the coronavirus behind the current pandemic.

Dr Judy Mikovits, a former research scientist, is behind the widely discredited Plandemic video, which makes a string of false and outlandish claims including that any coronavirus vaccine will kill millions and that beaches should not be closed because the sand and ocean will somehow treat Covid-19.

Re: The Trump Pandemic
I will admit that Republicans still express good old fashioned moderate conservative Republican values. Since at least the early 20th century, it's never been out of style to shit on the poor if you're a Republican.

'Ted Cruz Attacks "Waiters And Waitresses" For Not Working During Pandemic: "They Won't Come Back"'
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Sunday blasted waiters, waitresses and bus boys who he said don't deserve an additional $600 per week for being unemployed during the coronavirus pandemic.
In an interview on CBS, Cruz told host Margaret Brennan that restaurant owners are at a disadvantage because their staff doesn't want to work while the pandemic is ongoing.
"We need to do significantly more to fight the disease," Cruz opined. "At the same time, we have an absolute economic catastrophe. We have over 44 million Americans [who] have lost their job and we have got to get America back to work."
According to Cruz, Democrats like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) are "shoveling cash at the problem."
"Do you object to providing any kind or any amount of federal boost to unemployment?" Brennan wondered. "Because not everyone is choosing to be out of work."
"The policy the Democrats and Nancy Pelosi are pushing adds an additional $600 a week," Cruz complained. "The problem is, for 68% of people receiving it right now, they are being paid more on unemployment than they made in their job."

Re: The Trump Pandemic
It does. And the amount of cash they're "shovelling" into real peoples hands is miniscule compared to the tanker loads of dosh they've been helicoptering into their donor's share-option buybacks and corporate debt relief programs.

One of President Donald Trump’s top economic advisers suggested Sunday the government will lengthen a federal moratorium on evictions that has protected millions of tenants from losing their homes in the middle of the pandemic.
Cities across the country are bracing for a surge of evictions after a four-month federal eviction moratorium expired Friday, with no relief in sight from Congress. But a brief comment from White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow during a Sunday appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” hinted at an extension provision in the dragging negotiations to approve a new pandemic economic relief package.
