It's hard not to feel sorry for her. I'd lay the blame at an education system that didn't engage her imagination or recognise her individually unique gifts.
Yeah, education, and educators, seem to be stuck negotiating trade unions when trying to identify and weed out their terrible practitioners.

Having all of the 'good work' exposed online (via new 'school from home' requirements cropping up) will make it a bit easier for independent assessors to see what is truly valuable, and what is suitable for trimming.

Teachers don't control or devise education policy - they implement it.
Rationalia relies on voluntary donations. There is no obligation of course, but if you value this place and want to see it continue please consider making a small donation towards the forum's running costs.
Details on how to do that can be found here.

Teachers might, but I was talking about the broader catagory 'educators'.

The head of the Beaufort Delta school board was quoted in the paper as saying that she had to scream at her teen every day to get him to go to school.

That's our administration.

I'm sure yours is MUCH better though, and always working seamlessly with their unions.

Asshole governor trumps Trump. I had to renew a drivers license but did it by mail. They used the old picture.

Having read the Wikipedia article about her, I am surprised she did not finish up as an overdosed meth head in a morgue of some nondescript midwestern US town. Something Stephen J. Gould is quoted as saying seems apposite: "I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops."
So you talk about mobs and the working classes as if they were the question. You've got that eternal idiotic idea that if anarchy came it would come from the poor. Why should it? The poor have been rebels, but they have never been anarchists; they have more interest than anyone else in there being some decent government. The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all. Aristocrats were always anarchists. - G.K. Chesterton

"His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it." —From the OSS’s psychological profile of Adolf Hitler

There is a projected 201 000 number of deaths in the USA by October 2020.
https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america

...not taking into account spreader events like Trump rallies.
It could be even worse than that. How exactly are they going to stop it? They don't seem to want to do it now after it's killed so many people.
We might need to check again in two weeks time and see how the Tulsa event bent the curve.
:worried: Does seem as if the cases are increasing, 128 443 deaths and no sign of peaking. :worried:
The good news is that the projection has gone down to only 175 000 deaths by October.
