It’s shocking to see so many leftwingers lured to the far right by conspiracy theories
...
There has long been an overlap between certain new age and far-right ideas.
...
A few years ago, dreadlocked hippies spreading QAnon lies and muttering about a conspiracy against Donald Trump would have seemed unthinkable.
The anti-vaccine movement is a highly effective channel for the penetration of far-right ideas into leftwing countercultures.

New agers and dreadlocked hippies are not leftwingers. They never have been.
Some overlap between the 2 sets, though...

Hippies tended to be communal thinkers but also libertarians in "leave us alone" sense.
New agers could be anywhere on the pol spectrum

True. Some overlap. Generally, though, new agers and dreadlocked hippies tend towards individualism and libertarianism. Sharing a kitty in a household is not collectivism and few of them ever lived in actual communes, none of which lasted for long anyway. The opposition to the Vietnam war was not in itself a manifestation of collectivism. Neither were the demands for the legalisation of recreational drugs, free love or the abhorrence of conformism to stolid mid-20th century mores and morals. The apparent ease with which ex hippies and new-agers adopt right wing views does not surprise me at all because it does not require a huge change of attitudes.

From the ABC website:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-09-23/ ... /100484718
Victoria has recorded 766 new local cases of COVID-19 and four deaths.

It is the highest single-day tally ever recorded in Victoria.

The new infections were detected from 62,408 test results processed on Wednesday.

There were 40,957 doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered at state-run sites.

Victoria has now reached 74.4 per cent first dose vaccination coverage and at least 45.2 per cent double dose.
More doses were administered in GP clinics as well - that's where we got ours...

Bron and I are in the 45.2%, the boys and their partners have had their first dose, second doses coming up in 2 or 3 weeks...

This lockdown ain't going to end soon...

I've made suggestions in other posts that aspects of anti-vaxxer sentiments resemble religious ideology. Here is an example of that connection:

https://www.theage.com.au/national/jabs ... 58tu4.html
Victoria’s education unions have almost universally backed a state government move to mandate coronavirus vaccines for teachers and childcare workers, but an organisation representing Christian schools has warned the sector faces “significant challenges” with the order.

While the Australian Education Union, Independent Education Union and Early Learning Association Australia welcomed the announcement, Christian Schools Australia has pushed back against the move.

The Farm lasted for over a decade as a pure commune and still exists, promoting many of the ideas of its original residents, some of whom still live there.

General Lunatic Flynn's idiotic blithering about vaccines in salad dressing is a distortion of something that is being studied in the real world.
Mike Flynn's insane rant about "putting the COVID vaccine in salad dressing" is actually about a pilot study looking at growing produce that could contain the material of an mRNA vaccine and not require deep freeze storage.

...

- Mike Rothschild · Sep 22, 2021
'Grow and eat your own vaccines?'
The future of vaccines may look more like eating a salad than getting a shot in the arm. UC Riverside scientists are studying whether they can turn edible plants like lettuce into mRNA vaccine factories.

Messenger RNA or mRNA technology, used in COVID-19 vaccines, works by teaching our cells to recognize and protect us against infectious diseases.

One of the challenges with this new technology is that it must be kept cold to maintain stability during transport and storage. If this new project is successful, plant-based mRNA vaccines — which can be eaten — could overcome this challenge with the ability to be stored at room temperature.

The project’s goals, made possible by a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, are threefold: showing that DNA containing the mRNA vaccines can be successfully delivered into the part of plant cells where it will replicate, demonstrating the plants can produce enough mRNA to rival a traditional shot, and finally, determining the right dosage.

“Ideally, a single plant would produce enough mRNA to vaccinate a single person,” said Juan Pablo Giraldo, an associate professor in UCR’s Department of Botany and Plant Sciences who is leading the research, done in collaboration with scientists from UC San Diego and Carnegie Mellon University.

The human race perhaps....

Prof Naismith, who is one of the lead researchers and director of the Rosalind Franklin Institute in Oxfordshire, explained that coronavirus-infected rodents treated with the new nanobody nasal spray fully recovered within six days.

I've got a friend who grew up and lives on a communal property. (near Nimbin, which won't surprise the Australians)
