The US statistics were split off at Wiki
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistic ... ted_States

it seems that a person under 34 still has a very low chance of dying. Wonder how many of that group were hospitalized? 1769 died.

Spread of the virus through blood, as opposed to lymph, seems to indicate more severe disease:

If you can infect someone with a sneeze from several feet away, then why do they have to stick a fucking Q-tip halfway into your brain to test for it?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

That's where a high concentration of the virus lurks. If you did it more shallow, you might get a false negative...

If I can infect people by sneezing then they should be able to test my sneeze (I can pretty much sneeze on demand. It's a gift).

There is currently a scientific study being performed in my region where they try to find out whether taking samples for tests by having people collect sputum is as effective as using throat swabs.

One aspect is that even if you aren't able to infect other people anymore but you still were infectious a few days ago, we still want to be able to know that so that we can quarantine people you had contact with a few days ago so that those people won't go on spreading the disease.

So in this situation your sputum will probably not contain virus traces anymore but a throat swab will still contain virus particles

Probably depends a lot on mouth hygiene. I read somewhere at the beginning of the covid thing that mouthwash would destroy the virus. So it might pick up RNA, but not viable virus.
Maybe the science on this has moved on?

Mouthwash is basically bleach for the mouth. Maybe Trump was on to something after all? :ask:

Mouth wash will destroy the virus but only in your mouth. You can't really protect yourself from the virus by using it because you contract it by getting it into your throat through breathing. However, you can reduce the amount of virus in your saliva for a short time this way. When I was at the dentist recently, I had to use mouth wash before the procedure to reduce the risk for the technician. If you use mouth was very shortly before a swab is taken and the swab is only done in the mouth and not the throat, that could also increase the risk of a false negative.

Haha. Mouthwash is actually a bit mysterious. I expected to see ethanol. But there are quats that are antibacterial etc.
