They have been able to identify certain autoimmune antibodies present in long covid sufferers. They can also identify certain patterns in the blood vessels of the eye using the an ophthalmologyv device my company produces. And they can also identify that red blood cells have a reduced elasticity with those people.

There is an experimental drug. When people receive the drug, the autoimmune antibodies disappear, the blood cells elasticity returns and the patterns in the blood vessels in the eye disappear. And the long covid symptoms go away.

This drug is now shortly going into full clinical trials.
:cheer: My eyesight has deteriorated since getting Covid, a possible link?
Yes. The basic idea is that the autoimmune bodies decrease the elasticity of red blood cells and that decreases the availability of oxygen in organs that have smaller blood vessels.

This can also cause glaucoma in the eye.

s we move into summer, more than two years since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the words “new wave” are probably the last thing anyone wants to hear. Yet it is true that recent UK data (as well as data from Florida and other places) indicates that sublineages of the Omicron variant, BA.4 and BA.5, are kicking off a new wave of cases. With the pandemic no longer dominating the news in the way it once did, it’s worth taking stock of where we are and what needs to be done.

After all, these variations on Omicron are not more severe, but they do have the capacity to reinfect people, even those who have had a previous version of Omicron. This is further evidence that reaching “herd immunity” (where enough people are vaccinated or infected to stop further circulation) against Covid-19 is probably impossible.

We've already got a forever plague in the flu (and cold). I wonder how many more we'll get over the years.

I'd be more inclined to lay the blame on certain politicians. In the US and Australia at least.

They've made a 4th dose available for over thirties here, with it being recommended for >=50 years of age. As I'm nearly 50 I'll get it next week.

Yar, looking forward to another jab. It'll be time for another flu shot too before you know it.

Not quite in the same league tho the flu might be nearest. It's the effect on the immune system ....the erosion that is worrying as well as lingering effect on different organs with Covid.

A couple of weeks ago my left arm swelled up like a balloon. Ultrasound revealed a bunch of blood clots, aka thrombosis. I'll be on medication for the next five or six months. Now I wonder if I am one of the rare victims of the Covid vaccine or if it's just the sort of thing one is likely to get as one ages.
