It's enough info to sue Boeing:
When it learned of the issue in 2017, Boeing says it conducted a safety review and concluded that the non-working alert did not affect airplane safety or operation. The review also concluded that the indicator could be decoupled from the optional indicator at the time of a future software update.

Yep it is still smoldering:

Pilots confronted Boeing with 737 Max fears after first fatal crash, audio reveals
Boeing appeared to play down concerns of a second crash
Audio release comes as House committee reviews FAA role

American Airlines (AA) pilots angrily confronted a Boeing official about an anti-stall system suspected in two fatal crashes of the manufacturer’s 737 Max aircraft, according to a new recording.

In audio obtained by CBS News, members of AA’s pilots’ union quizzed Boeing officials about the system – knowns as MCAS – in a tense meeting in November last year, weeks after a Lion Air Max crashed in Indonesia and four months before the loss of an Ethiopian Airlines Max. In total, 346 people died in the two crashes.

Boeing has been criticized for not disclosing how the MCAS anti-stall system worked – a move that allowed the company to avoid costly retraining.

“We flat-out deserve to know what is on our airplanes,” one pilot is heard saying in the recording.

“These guys didn’t even know the damn system was on the airplane – nor did anybody else,” another said.

The official, Boeing vice-president Mike Sinnett, claimed the Lion Air disaster was a once-in-a-lifetime accident.

He said: “I don’t know that understanding this system would’ve changed the outcome on this. In a million miles, you’re going to maybe fly this airplane, maybe once you’re going to see this, ever. So we try not to overload the crews with information that’s unnecessary so they actually know the information we believe is important.”

The pilots countered: “We’re the last line of defence to being in that smoking hole, and we need the knowledge.”

It wont lie down:

Further safety issue found in grounded Boeing 737 Max planes
Airlines told to check aircraft as affected components may be at risk of premature failure

Safety regulators in the US have identified a further problem in Boeing’s grounded 737 Max model and the generation of planes that preceded it.

The Federal Aviation Administration has told airlines to check more than 300 737 aircraft, including 179 of the Max model, for improperly manufactured parts.

The affected components – part of the wing – help provide lift during takeoff and landing, and “may be susceptible to premature failure or cracks resulting from the improper manufacturing process”, the FAA said on Sunday.

The 737 Max, Boeing’stop-selling passenger jet, was taken out of service in March after the second fatal crash in four months. A total of 346 people died in the Ethiopian Airlines and Lion Air disasters.
Nice to know.

Boeing deserve this. Arrogance personified. They killed off the opposition by hook and by crook. Never been an honest broker. No wonder they are one of Trump's favourite American companies.

At the time, we thought that having a simple, one-step option for destroying the aircraft would streamline operations and provide convenience to pilots, but in hindsight, we now see that it probably wasn’t the best idea,” said Muilenburg,

Boeing is finally paying.

Boeing to pay $100m to Max aircraft crash families
US aircraft manufacturer faces dozens of lawsuits over accidents in which 346 people died

US aircraft manufacturer Boeing has said it will pay $100m to families and communities affected by the two crashes involving its 737 Max aircraft, in which 346 people were killed.

Boeing, which is facing dozens of lawsuits over the accidents, said some of the money would go towards the living expenses of the families of those involved in the fatal crashes and to alleviate any financial hardship they are facing.

The money is independent of any lawsuits relating to the accidents, Boeing said.

Relatives of passengers on a Lion Air flight that crashed off the coast of Indonesia in October 2018 have agreed to try to settle with the company through mediation, but families of passengers killed in an Ethiopian Airlines crash just over four months later are waiting until more is known about the cause of the accident.

Boeing said in April that it expects the crashes to cost it more than $1bn, as the company cancelled its financial outlook for 2019 and scrapped plans to reward shareholders by offering to buy back some of their stock.

Dennis Muilenburg, Boeing’s chairman and chief executive officer, said at the time: “We have great sorrow for the families affected. This weighs heavily on us.”

The 737 Max remains grounded around the world, having been taken out of service in March after the second fatal crash in four months.
Fucking hypocrite.

Disgruntled employee tampers with 737-800:
There were 150 people on board Flight 2834. Were they in danger?
Scary as a disabled computer system on a plane about to take off sounds, Waldock and Cox insist passengers were never in danger because the blocked air data module (ADM) set off immediate warnings in the cockpit during a routine pre-departure check.

"It's easily detectable because they're going to get a big error message on the front of their screens on the instrument panel,'' Waldock said. "It would tell them that the system isn't functioning properly.''

That sends the plane back to the gate, which is what happened with Flight 2834

Boeing customers have managed to change orders to an older model with no "max":
Two of the orders in the most recent month were to an undisclosed buyer who ordered the 787-9 Dreamliners. A source familiar with Boeing's order book confirmed those two orders represented a conversion of an earlier order for three of the 737 Max's.

The Lion Air crash report.

Lion Air crash report 'criticises design, maintenance and pilot error'
Advance copy of report says several factors were to blame for crash that killed 189 in Indonesia

The final report by Indonesian investigators into the crash of a Boeing 737 Max plane flown by Indonesia’s Lion Air that left 189 people dead has found that problems with Boeing’s design, the airline’s maintenance of the jet and pilot errors contributed to the disaster.

The report into the October 2018 crash criticised the US planemaker’s new anti-stall system, MCAS, that automatically pushed the plane’s nose down, leaving pilots fighting for control.

The 737 Max’s MCAS system is also at the centre of separate investigations into an Ethiopian Airlines crash in March that killed 159 people. Boeing’s 737 Max planes were grounded worldwide in the wake of the crashes.

The MCAS should be redesigned to have a backup and all systems that can take over flight control should receive closer scrutiny during certification, according to report recommendations seen by Reuters.

Boeing chief to admit company made mistakes over 737 Max
Dennis Muilenburg will appear before Congress on anniversary of first of two crashes

The Boeing chief executive, Dennis Muilenburg, will admit on Tuesday that the aircraft manufacturer made mistakes, and pledge that accidents like the two 737 Max crashes that killed 346 people will not happen again.

He will appear at a congressional hearing on the anniversary of the crash of Lion Air flight 610 in Indonesia that killed 189 people. In March, after an Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max crashed, killing 157 people, the plane was grounded worldwide.

According to written testimony, Muilenburg will tell the Senate commerce committee: “We have learned and are still learning from these accidents, Mr Chairman. We know we made mistakes and got some things wrong.”
