Business leaders convinced McConnell that US defaulting is a bad idea. Foxnews:

Hannity focused on McConnell's statement and Democrats' efforts to pass a proposed $3.5 trillion "human infrastructure" package that would significantly expand the social safety net.

He suggested that McConnell's deal would throw a "lifeline" to Democrats as they fight to pass the spending bill Hannity described as a "multi-trillion dollar socialist agenda."

If there is another Trump vs Biden election, it will be terrible. Two old guys that never had 50% in their 4 years:

Americans not interested in getting off their butt for childcare and other benefits. But the GOP is totally fired up. By CRT. So they get a Virginia governor. Plus the pandemic is now Biden's fault and anything related to it.
They have two basic options. The first is for congressional Democrats to try to distance themselves from Biden and drop his legislative agenda. The second is for the party to decide that its best chance at political recovery involves passing that agenda — which is still broadly popular, polls show.

It is hard to see how Democrats would benefit from the first option. But it’s not clear whether they remain unified enough to pull off the second.

Why are voters so unhappy with Democrats? The main reason appears to be the pandemic, which has disrupted everyday life and the global economy for longer than many people expected.
These developments — the pandemic, above all — have caused a sharp slide in Biden’s approval rating. “As Democrats try and make sense of the wreckage tonight, one fact stands out as one of the easiest explanations,” The Times’s Nate Cohn wrote. “Joe Biden has lower approval ratings at this stage of his presidency than nearly any president* in the era of modern polling.”

Eric Adams became New York’s mayor-elect, easily winning the general election after having relied on an anti-crime message to defeat more progressive candidates in the Democratic primary. In Buffalo, India Walton, a socialist running for mayor, appears to be trailing the incumbent, Byron Brown, a more moderate Democrat who lost in the primary but ran as a write-in candidate.

In the Seattle mayor’s race, Bruce Harrell, a Democrat who called for more police funding, is leading Lorena González, who endorsed cutting police budgets.

Suburban women, many married to Trump voters, will run the show 2022 and 2024:
Politico
Youngkin cut into McAuliffe’s margins in places like Loudoun County, losing by 10 points in the same place then-President Donald Trump lost by 25 last year.
So the GOP is now OK for the subu4rbs but Trump is still toxic.

How the Democrats Lost Virginia

The pollster Sean Trende believes that the outcome of the gubernatorial election has less to do with debates about critical race theory than with the economy and the typical disadvantages of the party in power.

Well the CRT did contribute to some people showing up. Surprisingly, not every republican shows up in odd years, 2022 and 2024 they do.

I'm struggling to see what the problem is. It's a small tax paid by the employee and employer that would give no more than 2/3 of pay, adjusted to account for other relevant benefits, for no more than a few months.

--//--

We don't really have good relationships with our employers these days, is that it i.e. nearly everyone at our largest employers will be part-time, crazy high turnover etc.

What's the average US employee worth? Could it be he's just not worth it? :dunno:

I think Manchin is kind of an empty suit. Like Trump and even to some extent Biden, he does not fully support things that he is made out to support in public. So he wants to step out of "democrat" on some issues and object as his conservative part. His "entitlements" is one. Not having any idea what these mean in practice to families he just pulls out a standard conservative view. He has NO solutions to any of these. But to him, to more they leave out the better.

Trump was easier to read. There was only one side to every issue. Does this make Trump look weak? If it does, we will never do it.

Youngkin is worth 440 million. McAuliffe only 30 million.
