If the US is anything like the UK at the moment then the distributors are still making 40% on every gram of hydrocarbon sold. Why not tax 30% of that away?

It's not a trivial matter to distribute gasoline, as it's so flammable. Lots of insurance costs. Diesel is easier.

Price increases at the pumps are outstripping increases in wholesale prices. Tax the profits of profiteers.

Here we are, 50% or more of each party thinks democracy is in danger.

end of may poll

the 19% undecided looks very realistic

There is probably a 50% chance that they will be running 2024.

Very clever planning: stop abortion duting most unpopular Democrat since Jimmy Carter.
Furor over Roe v. Wade reversal likely won't rescue Democrats in midterm elections: Poll

Even those who oppose overturning Roe v. Wade say the economy is a bigger issue for their vote.
Republicans face risks, with an anti-abortion stance at odds with most voters.
Most Americans know a family member or friend who has had an abortion.

What I predict will happen is that Trump will get his revenge with a few candidates in November. Simultaneously the GOP will move to dump Trump forever a couple of weeks after the election. If the economy continues as now in 2023 and 2024, then GOP will win with any candidate in 2024. Even with Trump, probably. But the benefit is small. Trump will not last to 2028. Any other candidate has a chance at two terms.

Is it too cynical to think the only reason gun legislation might pass is because Republicans want to draw attention away from the hearings?

https://crooksandliars.com/2022/06/mari ... swing-dems
In a new poll just released, 48% of Americans said they will vote for Democrats, as opposed to 41% for Republicans.

The Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v Wade on Friday is having a strong negative impact on Republican poll numbers. Americans are now saying they will definitely vote now with a 24% gain for Democrats over Republicans.

According to the latest NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll we are seeing a big swing in voter preferences.

Nice, but the poll that matters takes place in November. Three weeks before it Julien fucking Assange's Wikileaks will republish Hillary's emails or something...

That, and for all their talk Democrats are awful voters, oh and the system is still rigged.

Wake me up when Democrats defeat Republicans somewhere they shouldn't.
