All Things Trump: Is it over yet?
Re: All Things Trump: Is it over yet?
So you are probably happier about Trumps performance over there, winding things down, compared to Obama's which seemed to be winding things up.

Fortunately, Trump is so inept that he cannot do much else than pull out, just like he pulled out of Stormy. I don't have any commentary on Trump abroad as he has not done much. Iran remains to be seen, it is a highly developed country, it has technology. Not quite dangerous yet. I blame the CIA for all the messing around it did all those decades.

Surprise! Trump has been lying about El Paso.
Trump falsely said El Paso was a hub of violent crime before the border fence. Now he's holding a rally there.

https://www.texastribune.org/2019/02/06 ... as-feb-11/A fact check of the president’s speech published Tuesday by the El Paso Times noted that violent crime in the border city peaked in 1993, then fell by more than 30 percent between that year and 2006. Construction of the barrier in El Paso didn’t begin until 2008, the Times reported. El Paso’s crime rate has continued to drop in the years since, from 457 crimes for every 100,000 residents in 2009 to 393 in 2014, according to FBI statistics.

US Supreme Court blocks strict Louisiana abortion law
A divided U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday stopped a Louisiana law imposing strict regulations on abortion clinics from going into effect in its first major test on abortion since the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy last summer.
The court on a 5-4 vote granted an emergency application by Shreveport-based abortion provider Hope Medical Group for Women to block the Republican-backed law from going into effect while litigation continues.
The four liberal justices were joined by conservative Chief Justice John Roberts in the majority, suggesting that Roberts, as Kennedy used to be, is now the key vote on the issue.

Re: All Things Trump: Is it over yet?
Hey, you forgot to mention that the shutdown would have been so much worse under that nasty.... nasty woman. Come on L'Emmy, a bit of balance, pul-leese.L'Emmerdeur wrote:Trump thinks that yammering about the wall he said Mexico would pay for will keep his base happy. Meanwhile many of them are discovering that the tax bill he and his Republicans pushed through has resulted in them paying more in taxes, while big corporations and fat cats like Trump and his plutocratic cabinet are happily enjoying substantial decreases in their own taxes. His trade policies ('trade wars are good and easy to win!') are increasingly making life more difficult for farmers and ranchers, with bankruptcies in that sector on the rise. Trump's vanity wall isn't going to help either of those issues. If he manages to shut down the government again, farmers in particular are going to suffer.
'Farmers nearing crisis push back on Trump trade policies'
President Donald Trump’s trade war is magnifying some of the toughest farm conditions since the crisis that bankrupted thousands of farmers in the 1980s — and threatening a constituency crucial to his reelection hopes.
The president’s trade policies have sent U.S. agricultural exports plunging, exacerbating already difficult economic conditions facing farmers. Average farm income has fallen to near 15-year lows under Trump, and in some areas of the country, farm bankruptcies are soaring.
...
The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis warned in November of rising Chapter 12 bankruptcies, used by family farmers to restructure debt. The Fed said that the strain of low commodity prices “is starting to show up not just in bottom-line profitability, but in simple viability.” The increase was driven by woes in Wisconsin’s dairy sector, which shrunk by about 1,200 operations, or 13 percent, from 2016 to October 2018.
“The farm economy’s in pretty tough shape,” said John Newton, chief economist at the American Farm Bureau Federation. “When you look out on the horizon of things to come, you start to see some cracks.”
...
The recent five-week shutdown froze government programs to assist producers with financing, planting decisions and much more. If another shutdown comes after Feb. 15, it will seriously interfere with the spring planting season, further complicating the picture for farmers.

Re: All Things Trump: Is it over yet?
I would never dispute the claim that I despise Donald Trump. I despised him for more than a decade before he became a politician, and he's continued to reaffirm that opinion. Part of it is the stink of entitled villainy that has always wafted around him.
If he'd been content to remain a ludicrously bombastic mountebank in the private sector, I think he'd still be carrying on in comfort. By choosing to run for president, he laid himself and his organizations open to a degree of scrutiny that is clearly distressing to him. Mueller's investigation may or may not lead to serious problems for Trump himself, but the Southern District of New York is examining other aspects of his dealings that could prove problematic.
Before some ding-a-ling comes along with an asinine 'any minute now' comment, I will note that I have consistently said that these types of investigation have always taken considerable time. Effective prosecutors know that they have to dot every i and cross every t; I'm content to sit back, observe and comment as due diligence is carried out.

'New Trump Probe Looks a Lot Like a RICO Investigation'
Referring to a cooperator as a “rat,” President Trump sometimes sounds like a mob boss. He may ultimately be prosecuted like one, too.
While some reports say that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is winding down, it appears that another investigation is just gearing up. According to reports in The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, a grand jury in the Southern District of New York recently issued a subpoena to the Trump inaugural committee, seeking documents relating to donors and spending. According to reports, the subpoena indicates that prosecutors are investigating conspiracy against the United States, false statements, mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering and violations of campaign finance and inaugural committee laws. In addition, CNN has reported that federal prosecutors in Manhattan have expressed interest in interviewing executives from the Trump Organization.
...
Even if SDNY follows the Justice Department policy that a sitting president cannot be indicted, nothing prohibits the Trump Organization or Trump’s associates from being indicted. In addition, even if a sitting president cannot be indicted, a former president can be. Under the statute of limitations, a RICO conspiracy may be charged up to five years after its last predicate racketeering act is committed. If any predicate act was committed on or after Jan. 20, 2016, the statute of limitations would not preclude an indictment from being filed on Jan. 20, 2021, the moment a president is sworn in, so long as that president is not Donald Trump.
