They are playing hard ball for sure, but if May came up with a proposal they can live with they aren’t going to say no out of principle because ‘the EU says it and that is all that matters’. They aren’t that dumb.

Those of us who strongly believe in the European ‘project’ are feeling pretty desperate at this point. I really have no idea if they can pull a rabbit out of the hat at this late stage. There are dire predictions of economic doom if they don’t. On the other hand there is info out there which suggests we will pay less for stuff outside the closed shop of the EU and that after a pretty major shock we will ultimately be better off economically.

I’m not sure who is right but I lean towards the first outcome. For me though it isn’t just about the economics. The shock in question for me is that this all marks a marked shift to the right here.

at this late stage, I fear that the only solution would be May browbeating every body into repealing the art 50 declaration and remaining inside the union, the likelyhood of this happening seems to me me less than survival of a frog at a snakes convention, though.

A second referendum is the only thing that can stop it now, but that doesn't seem very likely.

Then we'll just etch them onto bricks and submit them to the butcher's window in triplicate.
