I’m no fan of the military being involved in any aspect of civil life, but contingency plans have to be made - and if they were not and the shit hit the fan were heads would after all roll.

My son, for his sins is actually head of public relations for the DVLC (Driving and Vehicle Licensing) and has a remit for PR with this stuff. Although based in Swansea/Cardiff he spends half his time in London these days. The level of detail and the potential scenarios that plans are put into place for seem pretty mind boggling when one hears about them.

In my smaller way I represented Education of Social Care in my county contingency planning group. Similarly the potential disasters and disruptions that plans needed to be in place for at times seemed Way over the top. We never once had to implement them either - thank heavens in most cases. Sellafield is not far....

We actually had water defences which were used against the Spanish. The Waterlinie or Water Line.

Well a quick Wiki suggests at least six invasions of Holland (or the states that have comprised it one way and another) since the 1500s. There are probably a few more. You made the sneering comment about the English Channel matey boy not me.

BTW I hate Mexico as well. Throw in Queensland while you are it. OK. Two of the worst places I have been to in my whole life. I did have a great flight to Queensland and back. First class all the way.
