well, I live next to the Jewish quarter and we haven't had an attack that got noticed in the 20 years I've lived here.

Then again, there's a relatively heavy police presence in the neighbourhood, especially every major jewish festival.

If there are attacks on synagogues etc. in Europe, are they more likely to come from neo-Nazis or Islamists?

both are high possibilities, though neo nazis are the most likely, the casher shop attack in 2015 was an outlier if I know how these things work

Fact is, I guess (not that I would actually know, not frequenting those circles and all) that you are more likely to find Nazis collaborating with Jews against muslims than the other way around, muslims are the worse threat.

A new play about rising antisemitism that opens in a London theatre this week has become the target of antisemitic abuse. One Jewish Boy by Stephen Laughton focuses on the relationship between a Jewish man and a mixed-race, non-Jewish woman, their experiences of hatred and abuse, and the impact on their marriage. “It’s about big themes on a domestic level,” Laughton said.

Since publicity for the play was launched in September, Laughton has been targeted with abuse on social media, and posters for the production have been defaced and torn down. Palestinian flags were posted online in response to mentions of the play...

The Chinese have taken over the old Jewish quarter here. I noticed the other day the synagogue was closed. We still have one main one left. My wife attended a funeral there a couple of months ago but they are the liberal wing; men and woman are praying together.

37 Tombstones Desecrated at Jewish Cemetery in France

LONDON — French officials paid their respects Friday at a Jewish cemetery near Strasbourg, where 37 tombstones and a monument to Holocaust victims had been defaced with swastikas and other anti-Semitic graffiti in the same week that a deadly attack that shook the nation.

“When a place of recollection is desecrated, it’s the entire Republic that is sullied,” Christophe Castaner, France’s interior minister, wrote on Twitter after visiting the cemetery in Herrlisheim. “Everything is being done to identify and detain the authors of this desecration.”

The authorities have not said if they have any suspects in the vandalism, which took place Monday night or Tuesday morning in Herrlisheim, a town of fewer than 5,000 people a few miles from Strasbourg, in the northeast corner of France.

The incident came at a tense time for the nation, shaken by what the authorities called a terrorist attack at a Christmas market in Strasbourg on Tuesday, the “Yellow Vest” protests of recent weekends and a rise in anti-Semitic acts.

Ukraine’s parliament has officially designated the birthday of a prominent Nazi collaborator as a national holiday, while also banning a book that criticized another anti-Semitic national leader.

January 1 has now been set aside in the country to remember Stepan Bandera, the Jewish Telegraph Agency reported Thursday. Bandera was a Ukrainian nationalist who joined forces with the German Nazis during World War II because he believed that they would help his country gain independence from the now defunct Soviet Union. However, he was later also targeted and arrested by the Nazis.

The Ukrainian city of Lviv, which was the nationalist’s home city, also announced this month that next year would be “Stepan Bandera Year,” a move criticized by Israel.
