My mayor kind of forced her opponent to address abortion. Though a mayor has little to do with the matter.
After Gaylor Baird brought up Geist’s voting history on abortion in the Legislature, Geist was forced to address the topic.

“Those of you who are African American, let me speak to you. You are 4.78% of our population, but 21% of abortions are from your community,” Geist said. “Twenty million of you have been aborted. Is that positive for your community? No, it’s not.”

She said her heart hurts for the African American community.

“That’s why I’m pro-life,” Geist said. “It’s not because I want to restrict women; it’s because I want you to be free.”

Gaylor Baird shot back.

“Wow. You heard my opponent talk about freedom and what’s good for you in her judgment,” Gaylor Baird said. “It is clear that she believes the politicians should be making those decisions instead of you. I don’t call that freedom.”

NYT
House Republicans approved a bill aimed at capping government spending and rolling back President Biden’s agenda in return for a one-year increase of the country’s debt limit.

They had to buy a few "ethanol" votes:
in an apparent deal with Midwestern Republicans concerned about the bill’s elimination of ethanol tax credits, a manager’s amendment released during a House Rules Committee hearing that lasted into the wee hours eliminated provisions that would have eliminated tax credits for biofuels.

Oh yeah, the freedom of speech party. -- She can still speak, but the Republicans don't want to be in the same room with her. She hurt their feelings.

'Montana House votes to discipline Rep. Zephyr, ban from floor, gallery'
Rep. Zooey Zephyr will not be allowed on the floor or gallery of the Montana House of Representatives for the remainder of the legislative session and will only be allowed to participate via Zoom after Republicans on Wednesday voted to punish the Missoula Democrat for what they said were her breaches of decorum and House rules.

The House voted 68 to 32 on party lines after providing notice Tuesday it would take action with respect to her conduct. Republicans Casey Knudsen of Malta and David Bedey of Hamilton, who have previously taken votes in support of Zephyr, said they had to support the motion given events of Monday.

The censure motion followed a protest that erupted in the House gallery two days earlier. Majority Leader Sue Vinton, R-Billings, read the motion, which elicited gasps from members of the public watching from a conference room because the gallery was closed to the public.

Vinton said Zephyr had disrupted orderly proceedings and put legislators, pages and others at risk of harm as a result: “Freedom in this body involves obedience to all the rules of the this body, including the rules of decorum.”

Since last week, Speaker Matt Regier, R-Kalispell, has not recognized Zephyr’s attempts to speak on behalf of her constituents after she said Republicans would have “blood on (their) hands” if they supported Senate Bill 99, which would ban gender-affirming care for minors if signed by Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte.

Debt ceiling
The bill passed in a narrow 217-215 vote. Every Democrat voted against it, as expected, along with four Republicans: Andy Biggs of Arizona, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Ken Buck of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida.
Any further tinkering will not get the same 217. if the bill just increases debt 1.5 trillion with no cuts, they will lose those and more. So it will need 5-10 democrats to pass next time.

Missouri unable to block transgender care, that they blocked for adults too
For now, transgender individuals in Missouri can continue receiving gender-affirming care, after a judge blocked a new law that would bar access to these services, but the ruling extends only through the end of this month.

The ruling comes as the ACLU and Lambda Legal, along with a team of attorneys, fight on behalf of clients in Missouri who rely on access to these services.

But in the ruling, Judge Ellen Ribaudo makes it clear that part of the reasoning is that the state’s Attorney General has not yet filed an opposition, and the court will rule further after receiving that information.

Last year, Democratic justices on the North Carolina Supreme Court ruled that maps of the state’s legislative and congressional districts drawn to give Republicans lopsided majorities were illegal gerrymanders. On Friday, the same court led by a newly elected Republican majority looked at the same facts, reversed itself and said it had no authority to act.

Yet one more example of how the absurdly politicised nature of the US system swaps rational objectivity for the blatantly partisan corruption of a so-called democracy...

Blue collar trumpsters are getting what they deserve. They are going to lose benefits. Here, veterans.

Anybody who even thinks of reducing veteran benefits ought to be shot, no trial required.
I'm no vet, but given what those guys have gone through for people and country, they deserve to be well treated.
