I don't think anybody is surprised that Trump has decided to appoint a former Fox News talking head with no previous diplomatic experience to be the new US ambassador to the UN, which is easily one of the most important diplomatic posts in the US Foreign Service. Only the best people!

'Trump picks Nauert as United Nations ambassador'

President Trump officially tapped State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, ending weeks of speculation about Nikki Haley’s replacement.

The U.N. post represents a significant promotion for Nauert, who since April 2017 has served as the State Department’s chief spokesperson.

"Heather Nauert will be nominated for the ambassador to the United Nations," Trump said on Friday.

Her primary qualification?

Trump told reporters last month that Nauert was “excellent,” adding, “She’s been a supporter for a long time.”

The stock market has erased all its gains for 2018, and worse may be in store. Why? Because the 2018 gains were steroidal, based not on the real economy but on the Trump-Republican tax cut for corporations and the rich. Corporations used their savings to artificially inflate share prices by buying back stock. Wealthy Americans used their tax savings to buy stock, too (the wealthy only spend a small fraction of their yearly income).
It should come as no surprise that the resulting gains in stock prices were temporary. Meanwhile, very little of the benefits of the tax cut trickled down to average Americans. Then came Trump's trade war, which is acting exactly like a tax on about a third of what Americans purchase. Net result: The real economy is slowing.

One of Donald Trump’s closest advisers spoke during the 2016 election campaign with a Russian offering help from Moscow and a meeting with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, the special counsel Robert Mueller revealed on Friday.

Federal prosecutors also alleged that Trump directed the adviser, Michael Cohen, to make illegal payoffs to two women who claimed to have had sexual relationships with Trump, implicating the president in the violation of campaign finance laws. They recommended that Cohen receive a prison sentence of about four years.

Donald Trump has blamed the Paris climate change agreement for ongoing violence in the French capital.

The US president tweeted on Saturday: “The Paris Agreement isn’t working out so well for Paris.

“Protests and riots all over France. People do not want to pay large sums of money, much to third world countries (that are questionably run), in order to maybe protect the environment. Chanting ‘We Want Trump!’ Love France.”

It was unclear whether protesters were expressing their affection for the US president.

His comments came as almost 90,000 police officers were deployed across France on Saturday, including 8,000 in Paris alone.
