How can anything die that is stillborn?

Now the Republicans are blaming doors and Ritalin.

So, to blame for America's gun violence:
video games
movies
rap music
rock music
not enough god/jesus
not enough armed teachers
not enough good guys with guns
not enough guns
immigration
liberals
mental illness
divorce
schools with too many doors
Ritalin

NOT to blame for America's gun violence:
guns

I bet there's no direct German translation for "poetical metaphor"...

I blame religion. Here's the logic:

There are more religious people in America than in Europe as a percentage - by miles.

There are far fewer gun related murders in Europe - by miles.

Therefore religion causes gun murder. :pardon:

Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

[NRA}Yeahbut the teachers didn't have guns.[/NRA]

No surprise--the NRA and gun activists have effectively blocked the adoption of one of the suggested 'precautions.'

'Drills' make people feel like something is being done to help and to make things OK. Those WW3 drills they had in America in the 60s would have saved very few of the millions that would have died but I guess some people felt they stood a chance if they followed the 'correct procedure'...though for quite a few who in the absence of a better strategy just tried to put it out of their minds and hoped it would go away - it would just have been a reminder.

Drills tend to make people afraid. And fear tends to make people more conservative.* And conservatism tends to go hand in hand with tribalism and hatred of "other" and even more fear.

Those WW3 drills continued on well after the '60s. I was born in '74 and we were still doing them in my first year or two of elementary school. The bomb drills, the proxy wars, the McCarthyism, the rise of the shadow governments (CIA, NSA, KGB), the ever looming specter of thermonuclear annihilation—all had a profoundly destructive effect on American society. We went from electing the progressive FDR four times in the '30s and '40s, to the tough-talking, conservative Reagan winning 49 states in the '80s, which of course led to massive income inequality, which then led to more fear and anxiety, and so on and so forth, and eventually Trump. Trump!

Anyway, my point is, now were doing something similar to these kids with these shooter drills and our refusal to do anything about the gun problem. It is infuriating, to say the least.
