We are stupid. Well, not me, all my neighbors. I always vote to tax the rich.

Fifty percent of Americans can name four characters from “The Simpsons,” but only two out of five can name all three branches of the federal government. No more than one in seven can find Iraq on a map. Just how stupid are we? Pretty stupid.

The whole idea that wearing a mask in public is a political statement is astonishingly stupid, but what do you expect from a People who still think lowering taxes increases revenue. :banghead:

With the 'trusted authorities' insisting no to masks, then probably, then no, then yes, then maybe, then IT'S THE LAW TO WEAR A MASK...can you blame people for thinking it doesn't matter much?

There sure seems to be conflicting information.

Watch Biden wear a mask, then Trump not. Watch newscasters in the field wearing masks, while their camera crews don't. Watch people stop listening to ALL authorities, and making their own decisions. Some based on knowledge.

Sure there's conflicting information, but that's coming from politicians who are by profession lying bastards who want to cloud the issue to their benefit, and the news, which can't report health and science issues worth a crap.

The approach to slowing the infection rate is what it always was. Wash your hands often, clean surfaces that get touched a lot, don't touch your face, wear a mask, and keep distance between people as much as possible.

That's what hospitals have been doing for years and it works, not 100%, but like seat belts enough to be worth doing. Credit where credit is due, that's not my analogy, it's from the Medical Director at a clinic I work for. She was an infectious disease nurse before going into management.

As I've shown you before, there is a good argument for not following the news. :{D

No disagreement here, except that you might not be going far enough...

Some politicians openly admit to politicking. Some work quietly behind the scenes, owning media companies and steering public opinion in more subtle ways.

Such as selective enforcement of rules against religious nutters.

My closest 'homies' work in laboratories. From tech's to oversight of the department, as a matter of fact. I try to soak in many perspectives on best practices.

Oddly enough, my note through the 'front door' of government, asking for more direction around running groups, has yet to be answered. (good news, as it probably means my current system presents no immediate concern, and I expect they are busy)

There is an equally good argument for vigorously doubting the authorities. Especially lately.

Human bias multiplied by phacking (slightly distinct from 'P-Hacking', in that it is unconscious) can create some really skewed results across a wide swath of field. Remember the lab-produced mice problem?

By the way, calling it phacking instead of P-hacking, sound appropriate to me because of the masturbatory tone of the word.

Not that phacking has anything to do with the subject of the thread...

P - hacking, the unethical academic practice.

And phacking, the more 'auto-erotic' version, which runs on instincts and bias.

US President Donald Trump says he ordered authorities to slow down the rate of coronavirus testing because it was adding to the number of COVID-19 infections being recorded.

Mr Trump described testing as a "double-edged sword", saying: "When you do testing to that extent you're going to find more people."

"You're going to find more cases, so I said to my people, 'Slow the testing down please.'

"They test and they test and we got tests — people don't know what's going on. We got tests, 'We got another one over here'."
A wilful failure to face the truth, a blatant attempt to sugar-coat a problem, or a complete inability to understand rational data gathering?

Perhaps each of the above...
Mr Trump was speaking at a re-election rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, pressing ahead with the gathering despite it being revealed that six campaign workers who helped set it up had tested positive for the virus.
Covid likes this...
He used terms such as "kung flu" virus and "Chinese virus" to refer to COVID-19.
Me racist?
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!

I'm sure the Democrats are equally to blame, somehow.
"His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it." —From the OSS’s psychological profile of Adolf Hitler

Aye, in order to show how balanced, unbiased, and rational you are you may only criticise Trump once you've exhausted every possible criticism of the Democrats.

Just as I have always maintained data is political and has nothing to do with reality.
