Unless I miss my guess, you could vote in the best candidate for your Democrats, and use your Republican primary vote to vote for their worst candidate...

I would like to like her, but so much of what she says makes her the most desireable Democratic leadership candidate - for the Republicans.

Much as I hate to have to agree, I have to agree, even though I voted for him in the '16 primary. The presidency is arguably the hardest job in the world (at least if the incumbent is serious about doing the job and not ragetweeting at two in the morning then fucking off to play golf for three days after declaring a national "emergency") and it ages the hell out of the people who hold it — and if you doubt that, compare pictures of Bill Clinton in 1992 and in 2001, Dubya in 2000 and 2009, and Obama in 2008 and 2017. And much as I love Joe, he's got exactly the same problem, as does Elizabeth Warren. One's 70s, early or late, is no time to be taking on a job like the presidency, especially with the traditional Republican mess left behind for yet another Democrat to clean up.

Personally, I'm leaning towards Julián Castro right now. He's got Executive Branch experience -- barring Biden's entry, he's the only one with that so far. Tactically, he also messes with the electoral math in Texas, and energizes the Hispanic vote, which could be key in some of the southwestern states and Florida. If I had to throw out a wild card pick for his VP, how about Wesley Clark, who could provide the international and military experience to the ticket? Age seems to me to be less of a problem for the VP candidate than for the Presidential candidate.

I would rather have Sanders and Warren et al. remain in the Senate so they can shepherd through Medicare for All and a rise in the minimum wage, among other programs.

And a little bit of me would be terrifically amused by us getting a President Castro now that Cuba doesn't have one.
