Politicians...yuck!!

Post by Tero » Fri Jan 19, 2018 8:30 pm

Let's look at them. Very closely. Seriously, or with satire. Look up their noses. I have this theory that people don't like politicians, CEOs, bosses, forement, anyone in power. But when they appear day after day, even year after year, they get more and more unpopular. There are bound to be things people disagree with and year after year, more things add up. You then vaguely remember the things you do agree about them. You compare them to the other party's guy and you only remember the bad things about the opponent. If you ever agreed with them on one thing, you have forgotten by now.

You go to vote and select the one in your party and have a few election issues in mind. You vote, holding your nose. But you still don't like them.

i don't have a particular disgust with Hillary, but I must say, I don't really recall a good speaker in the Democrats aside from Obama. If Warren runs, I'm sill not be terribly happy. these people never addressed the "baggage" in a way that put the issue to rest.

Luckily today I don't need to watch the news. I rarely watch Internet news videos. I prefer to read what they said. Well, the pornstar and Trump, that kind of stuff is more entertainment.

Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

Here we tend to vote for a party rather than an individual politician. I know I am in a minority in not being completely cynical about them, but I believe that most of them are motivated by the desire to do public service. Which is not to say there aren't rogues and psychotically ambitious individuals involved, or crazy ideologues for that matter. However I have known a few and indeed my eldest son was for a time an active member and in the running for becoming a Conservative MP (argggghh!), but I knew where he was coming from and respect him still for that. He's moved on now thankfully.

It is easy to be cynical and we are probably right to be to keep as many rogues under scrutiny as possible, but if we overdo it people with the right motivation to get into it will be put off - and probably already are.

That gets into another aspect: it’s a thankless job.

My son has a degree in poltical science and wrote some columns for a college paper. But that would be the closest to poltics he would do: speech writer. Maybe office manager. But he has departed to psychology.

That's pretty bloody radical. I spent three seconds wondering which forum member's view would come the closest to yours.

Wouldn't do any good, they'd survive, like cockroaches.

My first draft was to murder them all, but thought that might be taken a bit too seriously.

The US is learning the hard way that when it comes to governing, anti-politicians are worse than politicians.

Nah, we're not going to learn a damn thing. Those of us who know it, knew it already, and the dummies who don't know it will continue to vote Republican 'cause Jesus.

In my opinion the traditional Republican party, while not especially admirable, has been parasitized by know-nothing Tea Party zealots like Louie Gohmert and Jim Jordan. Anti-politicians like them and of course President Bogus (though he's an anti-politician of a different stripe) are what I was talking about.

All the US needs now is for a similar insurgent movement from the left to appear within the Democratic party and it will be in for some real fun. Bernie Sanders with his mantra of 'political revolution' may be the precursor to such a movement, and it's possible that this year's election will see in some Democratic anti-politicians: ideologues without a clue and a distinct aversion to learning 'the art of the possible.'

The Freedom Caucus must be very torn in its inability to reduce government. Both parties have their pet spending, and the cost of government will be roughly the same forever.

”I want to run for your Senator because I hate government. I will not achieve even the tiniest bit of that. But I have principles!”

There are a couple of politicians with power in the senate. But with the two party system and a president who acts on a whim (tooting about the wall in between) you get gridlock:

Pushed by an inexperienced, volatile president on one side, and a Democratic base that loathes that president on the other, the two Senate leaders have become the flashpoint for the political breakdown that’s brought the country to the brink of a government shutdown, just one year into the Trump presidency. It’s the latest, most glaring evidence to dispel early predictions that Schumer’s ascension to Democratic leader would bring an end to the animosity that marked McConnell’s dealings with Reid.

I'm of the view that those with a burning desire to rule are the very last people who should be put in charge of deciding things for the rest of us.

Politicians are torn between being tough, voting no to every proposal of the opposition, and being a deal maker. After a couple of terns, the deal maker is seen as spineless and is voted out by their state voters.

Only the president shows leadership past the state issues, and only in the second term.
